Dear Parents/ Carers,
What an extraordinary term this has been for our talented pupils! I am bursting with pride at the remarkable opportunities our children have embraced and the way they have represented our school community. Our Upper School pupils delivered a stunning performance at the Young Voices concert, joining thousands of other young singers in a truly memorable evening that showcased their dedication and musicality. Year 4 had the incredible honour of performing with the Royal Ballet as part of their Chance to Dance programme—a once-in-a-lifetime experience that left both children and staff absolutely inspired. Our school choir also sang beautifully at the Department for Education, demonstrating not only their vocal talent but also their professionalism and confidence in such a prestigious setting. We were absolutely thrilled to receive a letter from Bridget Phillipson, Secretary of State for Education, praising us for our efforts, especially with disadvantaged children—what a wonderful recognition of all the hard work across our school. I recently attended the BETT Show with some pupils and returned brimming with exciting ideas for enhancing our learning environment. We are also delighted to have been awarded the Careers Quality Mark and successfully hosted an 'Inspiring the Future' careers morning, welcoming distinguished civil servants from across several government departments who shared their experiences and aspirations with our pupils. These achievements reflect the commitment, enthusiasm and talent of our entire school community, and I would like to thank our dedicated staff and supportive families for making these wonderful experiences possible. As we look ahead to the rest of the year, I know there will be many more moments to celebrate together.
With warm regards,
Mr David Bradshaw
Following the interest in our 'Winter Warmer's' recipe writing , we have decided to extend this project to include more recipes to include spring and summer specials and teacher's favourites too.
We hope to collate the recipes and photos to make into a recipe book to sell during the summer term.
If you have already submitted a winter warmer recipe, feel free to pop on your chef's hat again, but this time why not make something that can be enjoyed in the warmer months?
Remember to use the format in Google classroom and include a photo of your dish.
All recipes to be submitted via the whole school Google classroom page by Monday 13th April.
In Maths, the children have been working hard to develop their confidence with formal written methods, tackling addition, subtraction, and multiplication. In English, we have been exploring the brilliant book Stone Age Boy, using it as a springboard for reading comprehension, discussion, and a range of writing activities. This has linked with our History learning, where children have been discovering the fascinating periods of the Stone Age, exploring how life, tools, and society changed over thousands of years. The children have been thoroughly engaged and have produced some fantastic work inspired by these themes of ancient history and discovery.
In Science, the children have taken part in a series of hands-on investigations all about rocks, exploring properties such as hardness, permeability, and appearance, developing their scientific enquiry skills along the way. This has included their very own edible rocks!! In Design Technology, the children have been getting creative by learning all about pneumatic systems and designing and building their very own — it has been a highlight of the term! In PE, the children have enjoyed a varied programme of activities including gymnastics and table tennis, helping them develop both coordination and teamwork skills. We hope they have been sharing some of their learning and achievements at home! Well done Year 3 for another fabulous half term.
What an incredible half term it has been for Year Four! We have been absolutely delighted by the children's enthusiasm and achievements across all areas of learning. A particular highlight was the superb performance of Giselle with the Royal Ballet and three other Luton Schools at the Grove Theatre in Dunstable, which truly astounded the audience and made us all immensely proud. The children's dedication to their weekly dance lessons certainly paid off ! Our collaboration with the Royal Ballet 'Chance to Dance' programme will continue next year and we are excited to find out what more exciting opportunities the children will have through this incredible initiative.
The children also showcased their remarkable talents in their epic production of 'Despicable Me 2', demonstrating impressive singing, acting and even tap dancing skills that left parents and staff thoroughly entertained. As we approach the next half term, we would like to remind parents of the Multiplication Tables Check that will take place in May. To support your child's preparation, we warmly invite you to an information coffee morning after the half term break, where we will share strategies and resources to help your child feel confident and ready (See dates for your diary below). Well done, Year Four, on a fantastic term!
And to think, it seems like just days ago it was us celebrating the completion of a fantastic production! It shows how this half term has flown past us and just how busy we have been once again.
In no particular order, we have been fortunate enough to have a HUGE vartiety of different speakers come in and discuss what future careers may look like for us as we grow older. Couple that with the Santander 'Money Matters' workshop, with their ever delightful representatives from Milton Keynes, and we may just see some financial gurus popping up from Hillborough in years to come!
A huge congratulations and tip the the hat (trick!) has to be given and awarded to our Year 5 footballers who represented us in the annual tournament, bringing home the silverware to boot (boot - little football based pun there... Sorry)!
With the half term break upon us, we ask that pupils and parents enjoy the time spent together and continue to build strong relationships at home, and with extended family and the wider community.
Small reminder: please make sure you read and complete the English and Maths homeworks!
The Year 5 team
It has been another busy and exciting half-term in Year 6, with lots of fantastic learning taking place across the curriculum!
In Science, we have been exploring the fascinating world of the circulatory system. The children have learned about the different components of blood, the role of the heart, and how oxygen is transported around the body.
In Geography, we travelled (virtually!) across North America. The class investigated its countries, major cities, physical features, and climates. We compared different regions and discussed how both human and physical geography shape the continent.
Our History lessons have focused on the events of World War II. We explored the causes of the war, key events, and what life was like for children during this time.
In Computing, the children have been developing their digital literacy skills by creating their own podcasts. They planned scripts, practised speaking clearly and confidently, and learned how to record and edit audio.
In English, we have been studying The Piano, using it as inspiration for descriptive writing and narrative work. The children produced some incredibly emotive pieces of writing, focusing on atmosphere and character emotion.
Looking ahead, puppet lessons will now temporarily pause as we move into our next term’s focus on preparing for the SATs. The children have worked extremely hard all year, and we are very proud of their dedication and resilience. Next term, we will be concentrating on building confidence, consolidating key skills, and ensuring everyone feels fully prepared.
Well done, Year 6 — keep up the fantastic effort!
