Goals
The HTHMA Senior Co-Op experience aims to provide seniors with an opportunity to prepare for life after HTHMA. Students can explore possible careers through internships, give back to the community through volunteer service learning opportunities, pursue professional certifications and/or work with a mentor on an entrepreneurial venture.
Internship
Similar to junior internship, students will work with a mentor on a project that benefits the organization and allows the intern to practice workplace skills that will be valuable as the student prepares for life after HTHMA. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in a field related to the student’s plans for college/future.
Service Learning
This is a great way for the student to give back to the community in a volunteer role. There are many organizations around San Diego that do incredible work in service of our community and this could be an opportunity to join them in their efforts. Give back to the community where you live before you begin the next phase of your life.
Professional Certification
Students have the opportunity to complete a professional certification, or potentially more than one certification. Professional certifications are extended trainings that qualify the student to perform certain tasks in a reliable way. These certifications can be added to your resume and could potentially lead to job opportunities.
Entrepreneurship
Students may want to explore their own entrepreneurial ventures under the mentorship of a professional in the field. This could be a chance to work on your own small business or develop an idea under the mentorship of a professional who can support you in your efforts.
Basic Logistics
The 2024 Co-Op dates are:
May 12th - June 6th
Students should have the option of taking off the Memorial Day holiday on May 27th.
Students will be off on May for Prom Night activities.
Students will also need to schedule one day during that time to be back at school for their Senior Exit Interview.
Hours - Students should work a regular work day (this can vary by type of internship work, but should be 5 days a week, 6-8 hours per day). Students working with a mentor as they pursue entrepreneurial interests may have a slightly different schedule.
Transportation - Students are responsible for finding appropriate transportation (their own vehicle, parent, mass transit, etc)
Pay - Interns are unpaid, as the program is academic in nature. Interns may be paid after internship hours, after school or over the summer at the mentor's discretion.
