Welcome, I'm Celina Rodriguez.

About me: I was raised in San Diego and continue to be inspired by the richness in diversity of our city and the dynamic San Diego-Tijuana border region. I believe that each student arrives in my classroom with assets and I look forward to using these strengths to empower students in their own learning successes. I attended UC Davis where I found my home away from home in the Chicana/o Studies Department. The loving mentorship that I received from this team of professors empowered me take on academic challenges and grounded me in community. I chose to work at High Tech High Chula Vista because the school community is committed to authentic mentorship in this same spirit of empowering students. I look forward to what we will learn and build together! I know first-hand the transformative power of a supportive community.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Chicana/o Studies & International Relations and my Masters in Education. My thesis work focused on the transformative power of a Chicana/o Art curriculum to engage and empower students and community through silk-screen printing and murals. My current academic passions are Chicana/o Studies, African-American Studies, and history.

When I'm not on campus I enjoy a quiet walk in nature, photography, and traveling. From Transylvania to Liberia, West Africa, there is no place that I don't want to go! Ever the curious seeker, I believe in creating opportunities for students to get curious, to ask questions, to learn from lifestyles that are different from our own, and to see the world for themselves.
