Internship
I am looking forward to seeing my journey throughout this internship. I have no idea what I will do as my final project, so I am still a little nervous about that. Other than that however, I am excited to see how it all turns out. I don't think I should be concerned about anything else, since I haven't even started it yet. Overall, I am a little nervous because it is something that I have not yet done before, and I am also excited to see where it takes me.
Week one of my internship was great. I have had a great experience during my first week, and I am looking forward for more to learn. Kids can be very curious to seeing an intern, and I felt very welcomed by them, I also had a good look at the past, since Sherman Elementary was once the school I attended to when I was a kid. I have learned that a person by psychological nature will miss a time or a place by past feelings of happiness and memory. I am very curious to see why us humans develop these nostalgic feelings, and why it is in our nature. I believe that every emotion has a primal purpose. Fear: to flee and be aware of danger. Love: To protect, and so on. But nostalgia is a very strange emotion that I don't see the purpose of. Either way, I have learned this:
A person can miss their childhood home, their neighborhood, or any place at all, but locations are tied to memories and emotions. A person can go back to these places, and buildings may be intact without a change, but your friends, neighbors, and people tied to these memories will not be there anymore. That is how time shapes everything.
I taught kids how to create a paragraph, and its structure. I also assisted during a classroom field trip to Mission San Juan Capistrano, a now historical landmark and museum founded more than 200 years ago. Here are some of the many pictures I've taken.
Week 2: Resolution
This week was way longer and it was a chance to think about the future project I need to make for this internship. I also need to make the interview with my mentor. I think I will finish these next week, to have the last few weeks of internship free for notes and for progression of my POL. That way I keep myself organized and without stress.
This week, I guided students with their work on writing about different types of Native American tribes, and volcanic eruptions. I guided their work and writing in Spanish to make sure their language learning straightened. So far, a very calm week, and I got used to the schedule here.
The picture I took from the classroom after the kids left for lunch time. They left their writings on the table about native tribes in the US when Columbus arrived.
I drew illustrations of the content that the kids were working on to help them on their work.
WEEK 3: This week was also very calm. I helped the kids with their paragraphs and guided them through their mini essays. 4th and 5th had different topics, both very interesting about volcanoes and native American tribes. I will be doing the mentor interview this week, and I will also plan further into my project. Overall, this week was a little better than last.
Students were guided on a lesson about tsunamis and how they can connect to volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and other natural disasters.
WEEK 4 : During the 4th week, I notice that school was very energetic. The 4th graders went to the school garden and got to use the microscopes to study the roots and various different parts of many different plants. The 5th graders worked further on their paragraphs on Native American tribes. More specifically, the "Sioux". The padres also came to the school, signed and took pictures with a lot of the kids. (Seems like they started doing crazy things after I left the school in 2018)
I managed to complete my mentor interview , which I have recorded. I now only need to work further on my internship project, and the iPOL for this Friday, on February 7th. For the internship project, I am planning to make a painting of a native American village with labels on their constructions, clothing, work, and maybe even culture. I hope that I will have this project finished by Thursday, February 6th. Below are only a few pictures I took from this week.
(I could not have this week's log ready and turned in, in time because my computer unfortunately broke down, and my phone is unauthorized to access my school account so I needed to visit a library)
Everything I've worked on with the kids. Some of these are my mentor's.
The physical education class equipment. I truly wish we had PE in our school.
