My internship is at a music recording studio my dad co-runs called Castle studios. At Castle studios, I will be learning how to mix, engineer, and record instruments. My hopes for this internship is to gain knowlege on the music industry and make connections that will further me in my dream of doing something music related when I am older. honestly I do not have any fears or worries about my internship experience, because I know It will be productive and benificial to me.
Week 1 Blog:
Who is your mentor? Describe his or her life, education, career path and more. Don't forget to post a picture of you with your mentor!
My mentors name is Austin, and he is a producer and DJ. He attended the Los Angeles Recording School, and spent most of his life playing and collecting rare music. After jamming with him and some other people at Castle Studios, I found that he is skilled in multiple instruments.
What goods and/or services does your company provide to the community and how do they consider their role in the community, responsibilities to society? Post an image that shows something your company contributes or an image that shows the effects of the work your company does.
My internship provides to the comunity by giving them good music that blesses their ears and makes their lives better. they have worked with many incredible artist such as P.O.D, Tribal Seeds, the lead singer of Bad Brains, and many influential artist in the reggae scene. They concider their role in the community by being part of releasing good, and genuine music instead of what everyone is listening to today. This is impactful because music is a big part of everyones lives, and the music you consume is very influential to you. The pictures show my dad (Co- founder of Castle studios) with the famous rock band P.O.D after a performance, and him working with one of the members in the studio.
Week 2 Blog:
What lessons or experiences at your internship will you bring back to school to help you to further improve in your academics?
I have learned a lot through my internship experience so far. They gave me a new perspecive on life and what it will be like after high school, and inspired me to do good now to set myself up in the future. Another important thing I learned is better social skills from being around older people so much.
What is the biggest challenge you face at your internship?
My biggest challenge at my internship is getting tired of a song too fast. when a client gives us a song to mix or record an instrument over, we often spend many hours editing and adding EQ to the songs. This gets annoying after a long time and it is hard work.
My internship project will be building sound pannels and placing them all over the studio to have a more crisp sound. Sound waves are invisible and they bounce around the room. When they bounce around the room, the frequencies hit your ears at diffrent times canceling each other out. The sound pannels absorb the sounds to make it crisp and clear.
Week 3 Blog:
Who benefits from the work that you do at internship? How and/or why?
My mentor and the people that frequently use the studio space benifit from the work that I do. They recenlty started renting a studio space, and I am helping them build the sound pannels, plug in the sound board, and organize cables and instruments. I also benifit them by helping finish songs from clients.
Describe one challenge that arose this week at your internship site (related to the work the company does). How did your mentor and their colleagues solve this problem?
One challenge we faced was having a constant buzzing noise while we were trying to record using the sound board. The sound board is used to EQ songs and dub them live. They solved this problem by running it though a power conditioner that is desighned for studios to stop the buzzing noise.
