Preliminary Internship
2025 Internship
Hope, Dreams, Fears:
My hopes are to be a successful photographer and to learn a lot about it. My dreams are to start my own photography company. My fear is not becoming what I wanted to be (a really good photographer).
Week 1
I learned about photography, what the 3 most important things about the camera. The 3 most important things about the camera is ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed. After that I was learning how to use the camera.
ISO:
The lower the ISO the more dark it is. The higher the ISO the brighter it is.
Shutter Speed:
If your subject isn't moving, you can lower the shutter speed but if your subject is then you can add more so it can capture your subject and it won't be so blurry.
Aperture:
The aperture of the lens is the opening through which light passes into the camera. The wider the opening, the more light can reach the camera sensor, which in turn affects the exposure of the image.
After learning that I was learning how to use the camera, learning how to use the ISO, Shutter Speed, Aperture, taking pictures of every subject like trees, bottle, welcome sign, just practicing on my photo skills.
I learned about how to socialize with people, what to say to people through email, create a social media and a website, I learned how to edit photos, I learned about light and what to keep an eye out of because there could be distractions in the photo. For example, I take a photo and everything looks good but I see that the window is behind that subject and the sun is pointing at the window, it will cause an affect on the photo, it will be very bright which is called hard light.
I met with clients today, we met at a beach, my mentor took photos of the clients and I took pictures of my mentor while she was taking photos of her clients, I took a lot of photos and really good ones.
On the first day of internship I was really surprised that I took a couple good photos, I thought all the photos I would take would be really bad but surprisingly it wasn't.
My mentor communicates very good with her clients, when me and my mentor met her clients it was positive energy and they had a conversation, my mentor tells her clients to make a certain position and tells them to spin or run together while holding hands, my mentor makes it very fun for them.
Week 2
I edited photos from last week, they turned out really good and I know how to use the camera a lot on manual mode. I know how to control how much light I want in the camera and the shutter speed. I researched automotive photographers and was inspired by two, lifethroughoptics and sianloyson.
I went to a soccer game at High Tech High Mesa and I was ALLOWED to take photos there (always ask before you start taking photos), and I took a lot of photos and after that I edited them.
I took a picture of a 2017 Camaro
Ive seen myself grow because the first week I was sorta bad at using the camera, and now the second week I've gotten really good at using it and I know where to angle the camera to make the photo look good.
I've wanted to be a photographer since I was 14 or 15 and now that I'm experiencing of being a photographer, it can be difficult sometimes but it doesn't change anything. I still want to be a photographer, I can see myself in the future being one.
Week 3
I'm thankful that my mentor introduced me to other photographers and getting me out of my comfort zone because I have trouble talking to people and thankful that she gave me this opportunity to learn photography.
Internship is really fun, I love learning about the camera, and getting to know other photographers. The challenges I've faced was the lighting. Using different lenses is fun but if the lenses are small and you take a photo, it will bring less light in, so it will make the photo look black. I managed to fix it by adding my ISO and lowering my Shutter speed a little bit.
Week 4
Doing portrait photography was really fun and I thought I only wanted to do automotive photography but getting to try out portrait photography made me want to try out more photography careers.
I got to take pictures of myself and when I edited them it was really fun editing the photos of myself and it makes me want to keep doing portrait photography.
I want to keep continuing working with my mentor but thats really up to my her. Plus school is more important because it can make me super busy, homework can be hard and I don't want work to stack more things for me to do. I want to keep continuing taking photos though so I don't forget what I learned, I have a strong passion for photography and I want to keep doing it.
Week 5/Final Week
I do not want to go back to school because internship is so fun, getting to walk around taking pictures, doing self-portraits, and taking photos of cars is super fun. I feel like when I come back to school, it's still going to be difficult. I am looking forward to seeing my favorite teachers again and friends. I'm gonna miss walking around taking photos of random things and doing self-portraits.
I'm thankful that my mentor gave me this opportunity to learn photography. When I had no idea where to work at because the places rejected me or it was already taken, I thought I'd had to work somewhere where I wouldn't enjoy working there but my mentor offered if I wanted her to be my mentor and couple weeks later I contacted her and then she taught me photography. I am super grateful that she gave me this opportunity. I'm also super thankful that the other photographers were teaching me.
I created my own photography logo for myself (it's still a work in progress).
