Welcome to Highline College's

Faculty Advising Weeks

November 1 - 12, 2021

Overview:

Advising Weeks, which are intentionally timed to coincide with winter registration, are dedicated to intrusive advising as well as supporting new advisors to practice the professional development received to this point. Faculty will take concrete action to start (or continue) meaningful relationships with assigned advisees and help them register for winter quarter. All faculty will have at least five formally assigned advisees to work with. We’ll conclude these two weeks with a debriefing session with Pathway Leads.

Objectives:

  • To increase student retention, enrollment, and graduation rates

  • To promote and encourage faculty to advise intrusively

  • To support faculty in building confidence for advising

  • To provide faculty with practical advising tools

SCHEDULE OVERVIEW

Week 1: Advising Support

To support faculty advisors, there will be a session every day - see agenda for details. Recordings of the sessions will be distributed on the following day.

Week 2: Meet with your Advisees

All faculty should reach out and connect with their advisees if they haven’t already this quarter and help students register for winter classes. If a student asks you something that you don’t know the answer to, use Microsoft Teams to connect with advising staff for just-in-time support 8am to 5pm.

Week 3: Debrief and Reporting Out with your Pathway

Look for a Zoom invite for this. Let’s chat about how it went - what successes, challenges, and surprises were encountered during Advising Weeks.
