Teanassie Primary School was built nearly 150 years ago, in 1877, and is situated on the A831 Beauly to Cannich road, some three miles from the picturesque town of Beauly. It serves the catchment area of Kilmorack and Struy.
The main building houses a canteen, resource/library, office and toilets. We have four demountable units, which house the staffroom, ELC, the Infant classroom, the Senior classroom and an ASN space, named the Zen Den by pupils. We promote an outdoor ethos and have a small tarred area with basketball and games, a large grassed pitch, a timber trail and sandpit area and a mud kitchen. Our pupils love the area known as the ‘Breathing Space’ with trees, plants and areas to explore. The nursery has a well equipped outdoor learning space.
The school is situated in an idyllic spot, nestling at the foot of a hill and is surrounded by mixed woodland. The Teanassie Burn and the River Beauly with the Aigas Power Station are within walking distance.
A variety of wildlife abounds and the children are encouraged to be aware of their environment and to take an active interest in its care and preservation. The school has apple trees and maintains an organic garden, where pupils grow flowers and vegetables. The pupils have a strong partnership with the nearby Aigas Field Centre and forest.
Care is the key word to the ethos of school life. Children are taught to have care and respect for all. They are encouraged to care not only for their immediate environment, which includes the grounds of the school and the building itself, but especially to be caring towards other children and their belongings, staff members and visitors. They are taught to be vigilant to one another’s needs, to be responsible and responsive when help is required and to be caring and sharing when a new child arrives at school.
