Learners experience transitions throughout primary - whether this be from moving from Nursery into P1, from one class to another, Early to First to Second Level, lower to upper primary and P7 into S1. Staff can support learners using a variety of resources to make these transitions as smooth as possible.

This PPT uses ideas from a previous training session given by SCILT. It goes over the 5 key 'bridges' to support transition & looks and gives practical advice with strategies & resources (for P7-S1). Plus there is a folder with associated material to look at this a bit further. Great for whole-school or departmental CLPL.

Why not focus on a particular topic or activity in the months/weeks leading up to a key transition. This could be a topic in language lessons or part of a bigger ASG transition project. This can help create a smooth transition by spanning the bridge between nursery and primary or primary & secondary? It can also give a focus to the P7 visits to secondary schools in June Here's some examples & resources.

Annual meetings - to share resources & agree agree a programme of work to help with consistency.
Visits to the primary school by secondary staff to meet learners & deliver some language lessons.
S6 Language Ambassadors - Could your senior pupils deliver/support language lessons in your local primary schools throughout the year? Perhaps introduce some key language and play some games. An event for P7 - celebrating the language of the country or including some language eg. a ceilidh or Gaelic field trip.
