AVID HISTORY
AVID has been an integral part of SHS since 2013. It has grown from two small sections of scholars to 7 sections across all grade levels. Our program currently has a total of 190 scholars. Our plan is to maintain enrollment through targeted selection and recommendations from teachers and staff. Applications will be available in January 2024. See Mrs. DeWitt, Mrs. Delgado or your Guidance Counselor.
AT SHS WE FOCUS OUR EFFORTS ON THE FOUR DOMAINS:
AVID SCHOOLWIDE INSTRUCTION
WICOR
AVID schoolwide instruction occurs when the entire instructional staff utilizes AVID strategies, other best instructional practices, and 21st century tools to ensure college readiness for AVID Elective students and increased academic performance for ALL students. The teachers at SHS always utilize and learn more AVID strategies during their PLC (Professional Learning Community) monthly meetings.
AVID SCHOOLWIDE SYSTEMS
AVID Elective Management, Access to Rigor/Student Support, Assessment of Student Progress, and Professional Learning
AVID is schoolwide when systems are in place that support governance, curriculum and instruction, data collection and analysis, professional learning, and student and parent outreach to ensure college readiness for AVID Elective students and improved academic performance for ALL students.
AVID SCHOOLWIDE LEADERSHIP
College Readiness Mission/Vision, Representative Governance, and Strategic College Readiness Planning
AVID schoolwide leadership sets the vision and tone that promotes college readiness and high expectations for ALL students in the school.
AVID SCHOOLWIDE CULTURE
Rigor, Community Activities/College Awareness, and College-Going Environment
AVID schoolwide culture is evident when the AVID philosophy progressively shifts beliefs and behaviors resulting in an increase of students meeting college readiness requirements.
