Ronnie Brogdon began his coaching career at Jonesboro Westside from 1972-77. From 1978-2010, he served in many capacities at Highland High School: boys basketball coach, athletic director, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent before his retirement in 2010. Coach Brogdon’s teams both at Westside and at Highland won numerous district and conference championships. He served as the head coach for the East All-Star team one year and was an assistant several times. He was the recipient of the prestigious Lowell Manning Award and is an inductee into the Lyon College Athletic Hall of Fame as well as the Rebel Athletic Hall of Fame. Currently, Coach Brogdon serves on the Lyon College Tournament Executive Committee and is the Executive Director of the Northeast Arkansas Invitational Basketball Tournament. Coach Brogdon was the quintessential coach, mentor, and role model for his players. He was a student of the game and taught the strategies of the game to his players. He demanded hard work ethics and stressed sportsmanship, assets he also demonstrated. Perhaps his best quality was that he taught life skills to his players. He required them to learn the game of life as well as basketball. Many of his players went on to be successful coaches and good citizens.
