Hi! I miss seeing you all at school but while we are "Safer at Home" I want us to continue working on the skills we have been working so hard on while in school. Please fill out the ZONES check-in form at least three times a week. I will post other options for Social Emotional activities each week and would ask that you complete one activity each week. They will be short, I promise!

Calm Down Jar Craft - I have a few of these calm down bottles in my classroom and they are such a relaxing tool! There are many variations to them and you can find many different ways to do it online. Some are with glue and some are not, but add glitter, little trinkets or anything else to make it interesting! This could be a fun social distancing project to do with your child that could come in handy later on! Here is one link I found - https://www.weareteachers.com/calm-down-jars/
Mindfulness, relaxation, and yoga - Follow the link to find great videos on mindfulness, relaxation, and yoga. These videos would be great in the morning to start the day off right or it would be a good bedtime activity to calm the body before bed. https://www.cosmickids.com/category/watch/?video_category=mindfulness&changed=video_category
This book is called, The Great Eggscape. It is a fun book that goes well with Easter, which was on Sunday. In the book, Shel talks about taking "me-time". Self-care is something you do for yourself to take care of your mental, emotional and physical health. Self-care can help you become your best self. We all need to practice self-care, adults too! Some examples would be - taking care of your body (eating healthy, being active, brushing your teeth, showering, etc.), volunteering to help others, having fun, and enjoying the outdoors (maybe go on a walk and pick up litter - try to use gloves.) Find a way to practice self-care today!
The Cool Bean by Jory John and Pete Oswald. Have you ever felt left out? Most of us have!
What makes someone "cool?" Has anyone ever been a "cool bean" to you? How did it make you feel? What can you do today that would make others and yourself feel "cool?"
Make it a great day!
I Am Enough by Grace Byers
Think about what makes you special? Think about someone that is special to you? Make them a card telling them what makes them important and your favorite thing about that person. Doing acts of kindness and bringing happiness to others can help bring happiness to ourselves as well! Tell me, how did giving that card to your special person make you feel?
How can your hands be helpful? Think about ways that you can help someone. How does helping make yourself and the person you're helping feel?
Last week, Diane Alber, the author of a series of social emotional books, uploaded read alouds of the books listed to the right. Find a couple that interests your child and have them watch/listen! Talk about the lesson of the book together. Let Ms. Sander and/or Mrs. Meissner know which one you listened to and what you learned!
