Mrs. Rusch's Second Grade Smarties

Meet Mrs. Rusch

I’m Kirsten (Aebersold) Rusch and this is my 28th year at Highland Elementary. I taught my first 22 years in first grade and have been in second grade since. I’ve been here so long that I’m starting to teach my second generation of Highland Cardinals!

I LOVE being a teacher and I look forward to sharing my love of learning with your Second Grade Smartie!

Growing up, I was a Belmont Brave, and played sports against the Highland Cardinals! I went to college at UW-LaCrosse. When I’m not at school, I enjoy scrapbooking, camping, kayaking and cheering for the Packers. I am married to Chris, a hockey guy from Green Bay, and we have two sons: Evan (21) and Conner (18), both now college dudes in LaCrosse.

My goal is for our classroom to be a place of safety, fun and curiosity! I especially have a passion for teaching science and reading. I strive to connect our units of study with active learning, inquiry and connections to new content and reading material. The next two years I’ll be working toward becoming a National Board Certified teacher, an exciting journey for me!
