Hello from Mrs Pegington
Dear High Cross Families,
It has been a busy few weeks since the last Chronicle. The children are continuing to settle well and have become so much better at following the school rules 'Be Kind, Be Ready, Be Respectful.' As I walk around the school, the children are excited and engaged in their learning and there are smiles galore in every classroom! It has been wonderful to see so many of you attend the parent/carer engagement sessions that have already taken place . We look forward to welcoming you to the forthcoming parent/carer engagement sessions that are still yet to take place this term.
As a school we have very high standards and expectations. We ask parents/carers for their full support with ensuring their child attends school regularly and punctually and that correct school uniform is worn. Please ensure your child wears PLAIN, BLACK shoes as part of their uniform. Thank you for your understanding and support with this.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
Please continue to check the Chronicle for important information and dates for the diary. Please be aware all dates are subject to change.

On Wednesday of this week, a team of year 5 and year 6 children visited Lliswerry Primary School to participate in a netball festival. The children did an outstanding job of representing our school. Throughout the festival they showed excellent netball skills and teamwork. The children's behaviour was exemplary from start to finish and it was an absolute joy for both Mrs Pegington and Mrs Salathiel to watch our talented netballers. Children, you were FAN...TASTIC and we are very proud of you.
On Wednesday 24th September a team of year 6 children visited Risca Comprehensive School to participate in a football tournament. The children were an absolute credit to our school and truly shone. They worked as a team, gave 100% and demonstrated fantastic skills. It was a pleasure for Mrs Pinkstone and Miss Dunn to see you in action. Thank you for representing our school. We are very proud of you. Thank to all of parents and family members for your support as well.
Thank you to all the parents/carers who attended the ALN coffee catch up afternoon on Thursday 18th September. We hope you found it useful to discuss any ALN queries/worries you may have had as well as the opportunity to chat with other parents/carers. It was lovely to see you.
Our next ALN coffee catch-up is on Thursday 13th November 2025.
Please be reminded that rude and disrespectful behaviour towards staff is unacceptable. In the short amount of time of returning back to school this academic year, there have been some instances of parents/carers being rude and disrespectful towards staff. This behaviour is absolutely unnecessary, unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Please treat our staff with the same respect you would expect to receive. Here is a reminder of Communication Code:
When communicating with pupils, parents, carers, staff and all stakeholders, in writing, by phone or in person we will always:
Be polite, respectful and do our best to resolve your questions and queries;
Try to get back to in a timely manner. Please remember our staff are very busy and they have daily teaching commitments. We will always try to get back to you within 48 hours but please understand this is not always possible;
Pass your query on to someone who can help if we are unable to assist you.
In return, we ask that you:
Treat our staff with politeness and respect;
Do not contact us to vent anger or frustration. We understand that something may have caused you or your child distress but please try to communicate with us in a calm and respectful manner to allow us to try to help you quickly and efficiently;
Accept that staff may not be able to respond to you immediately and please remember that we do not expect our staff to work at weekends;
Allow us to explain our reasons for decisions, which are always made in a considered and timely manner.
It is important to note that persistent rude, aggressive or malicious communication will not be tolerated. If such inappropriate communication occurs, it may result in restrictions being imposed by the headteacher (in consultation with the Chair of Governors) on your mode of communication with the school.
Thank you for your understanding with this.

Pupil Voice Groups
We are delighted to share with you four of our pupil voice groups for the academic year 2025 to 2026. There are two class representatives for each pupil voice group, who will ensure that all our pupils are aware of the importance of being heard and have the opportunity to share their ideas.
