It was lovely to welcome parents/ carers to "Our Curriculum Workshop' last week. It was a pleasure to share how the New Curriculum for Wales has helped to shape our Currculum at High Cross and how we hae tailored our vision and aims to meet the needs of all our pupils in order for them to thrive. We are very proud of our Curriculum offer at High Cross and our school motto "Together we grow and shine" emphasises the importance of our whole school community play an integral part.
Heddlu Bach - PC Donne
Last week on Friday, Heddlu Bach went with PC Donne to talk about police dogs and what dogs they can have and which dogs they can't have. We also talked about how different dog breeds do different jobs, there was also a quiz about the 13 or more dogs they have in their department. We learned about the dog breeds that they use for tracking illegal substances and personal items of the person that they are tracking. Another thing that we learnt about is that dogs have to retire after they are 10 years old - Hedldlu bach.
We have recently held three very exciting Partner Network School events for teaching professionals from schools across the consortia. We have shared our approach to teaching science through engaging experiences and it was wonderful to have children from Year 1 to Year 6 demonstrating their investigations in front of our visitors. Thank you to Mrs Williams for presenting our journey. We also held an Early Years Twilight sharing the process of planning - moving from adult driven topics by listening to children's voices. Mrs Oaten and Mrs Glencross shared how observations are used to support planning. Our visitors had a tour of the school and shared documentation in order to share practice in their own school settings.
Tim Cerdd Iaith Music
Year 4 and Year 6 started their Cerdd Iaith workshop with Tim. These workshops combine: music, rhythm, and spoken language. They introduce the children to international languages through songs, chants, games, and movement. The children learn basic words and phrases (such as greetings, numbers, and simple questions). In the first session alone the children were speaking Welsh, Spanish and French as part of the songs. We have 3 more sessions and then a celebration event with Year 4 and Year 6 parents on Thursday 12th February at 10.30am.
St Dwynwen's Day
On Sunday 25th of January Dydd Santes Dwynen is celebrated in Wales - it is like a Welsh version of valentine's day. In school, we have used our technology to create posters and cards. Some have been sewing love hearts. Enjoy celebrating love and compassion this Sunday with your loved ones. Hwyl, Criw Cymraeg
Year 6 visit to watch 39 Steps
Year 6 had a wonderful morning at Bassaleg School watching their dress rehearsal performance of 39 Steps. It was a great opportunity for the children to see our feeder secondary school and some of the exciting oppotunities available at the school. There was a wealth of talent on the stage and Year 6 were an absolute credit to High Cross.

Parking outside school
It has been brought to our attention that some Parents/Carers have been parking dangerously during drop off/pick up times around our school and blocking our neighbours driveways. We understand that it can be very difficult to park near us, but please can we ask that your parking is both careful and considerate. Please allow yourself extra time to park away from the school and walk around with your child.
