Shwmae Pupils of High Cross Families,
It is crazy how the first half of the spring term has passed! Classes are getting ready for the Eisteddfod with their songs, and we must say we are impressed by all the singing around the classes. The effort throughout the school is remarkable! The tocyn iaith scores are increasing rapidly this year and everyone's dedication to it is incredible! All of the year 6 pupils are getting very excited for their residential trip this year, as well as the Bassleg School gym and dance display.
That’s all, Hywl Fawr!
Deputy Headgirl & Deputy Headboy

We are very proud of our Head and Deputy pupils who represented the school at the Holocaust Memorial Service on Tuesday 27th February. The service took place at St Woolos Cathedral in Newport. The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2026 is 'Bridging Generations'.The theme encourages us all to engage actively with the past - to listen, to learn and to carry those lessons forward. By doing so we build a bridge between memory and action, between history and hope for the future.
Tennis Taster
Last week children in Year 3 to Year 6 experienced free tennis taster sessions. Each class had half an hour in the school hall with the instructor focusing on lots of different racket skills, throwing and catching, as well as developing their hand eye-corodination and spatial awareness. They then finished off with some fun team games.
The Criw Cymraeg have had an exciting week as some of the criw have been speaking to the governors about the Welsh in our school! Saint Daivd's day is coming up so we have been singing Welsh songs in assembly. Each year group has been practicing their song for the Eisteddfod coming up. The tocyn iaith scores are increasing rapidly this year and everyone’s dedication to it is incredible! We did an assembly on Wednesday to celebrate Dydd Miwsig Cymru, which is on the 13th February. We all enjoyed listening to the different songs.
Diolch yn fawr iawn Mrs Richardson and Criw Cymraeg!

We are pleased to share with you the results of the parent governor vacancy. Following the ballot we give a warm welcome to Matthew Dunn who has successfully been appointed as a parent governor representative. We look forward to working with you.

Advocacy Review
Parents Survey on Provision for Additional Learning Needs
The Local Authority would like to share the short survey below for parents and carers, which aims to gather feedback on the current provision of Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Advocacy.
The feedback collected will be vital in understanding current experiences and informing future improvements to ALN advocacy services.
School Uniform
We have noticed that a number of children are not wearing the correct uniform. We feel that school uniform helps our pupils to feel part of a community and appreciate your support to ensure that the correct uniform is worn.
Winter uniform: White polo t-shirt, a royal blue round-neck sweatshirt or cardigan with or without the school logo, grey trousers, skirt or pinafore dress and black shoes. Summer uniform: Blue and white gingham dress or grey shorts can be worn.
P.E. kit: Navy shorts or jogging bottoms, a royal blue polo t-shirt with or without the school logo and trainers or daps. Children can wear their P.E. kit to school on their allocated day.
Jewellery: must be limited to watches (not smart watches) and stud earrings (where necessary). Children must remove all jewellery before they undertake any PE sessions. If ear piercing is still healing, parents must provide tape to cover studs for PE sessions.
Our PTA also sell preloved uniform which you can call into the school office to purchase or email the PTA: highcrossprimarypta@gmail.com
