Hello High Cross! What a fortnight! Children have again gone out for a Rugby Tournament in Spytty and we've been to Bassaleg School to work with children from our cluster. But what’s been the talk around here, Monday’s trip to the Riverfront for a RUPNZIPANTOMINE. We have had a great two weeks at high cross. See you soon. -Bye

The PTA would like to thank HCPS families for supporting our recent Disco event. Without your support we couldn't do what we do. We made a fantastic profit of £211.05! We look forward to your support at our next PTA event which is our Christmas Hampers Raffle at the School Christmas Concerts. Raffle tickets will be available to purchase at the concerts and cash will be required.
What a fabulous turnout at our discos on Wednesday 19th November. From our youngest Nursery children to our oldest in Year 6, everyone certainly had a brilliant time. There was certainly lots of energy, laughter and joy in the hall from start to finish. Thank you to our wonderful PTA for organising this event, the brilliant team of helpers and amazing DJ's. We can't wait for the next one!
We would like to say a huge thank you to all parents and carers who attended our book fair — we are delighted to share that together we have raised £494.38 towards lovely new books for our school!
We are excited to announce that we will be running ‘Benthyg’ again this year. We have been collecting Christmas jumpers to open up a library so children can ‘borrow’ the jumpers to wear over the Christmas period. We will be opening the library to allow people to select a Christmas jumper to borrow on Friday 5th December. The library will be open straight after school from 3:15pm to 3:30pm.
On Monday 24th November Year 3 had a wonderful Christmas Workshop at Bethesda Baptist Church. We heard the real Christmas story, dressed up as the main characters and created our very own Stable scene. A huge "Thank You" to ICE WALES for inviting us.
Year 6 have had three of the 'Believing and Belonging' programme delivered by Bassaleg School Sixth Form. These sessions centre around how to look after yourselves and others. In the first three sessions we looked at: honesty, respect and positivity. The next three sessions will cover: resilience, curiosity and pride. It is a great way to connect with our feeder school and for Year 6 to develop their knowledge around important sujects; as well as having the opportunity to ask questions about secondary school life.
Our rugby team attended the Newport Schools Christmas Cup tournament on Wednesday 26th November, wearing their brand new team tops! They showed fantastic determination, resilience and teamwork. They have made excellent progress from their training sessions and this was clear in the fantastic skills demonstrated. We are so proud of the children and hope they enjoyed the experience. Thank you to Mr Molano their rugby coach for his hardwork in preparing the team for the tournament and attending the event with them. As well as thank you to Mrs Pinkstone who accompanied the children and was there to cheer them on, along with lots of parents and carers supporting. It is certainly a team effort!
On Thursday 20th November our Year 6 SIG representatives attended an online council meeting with children from a number of other Newport schools. They had to share their ideas to help shape future school council events led by Newport Local Authority. They planned and prepared their proposal ahead of the meeting. Then yesterday (Thursday 27th November) our Year 6 SIG representatives, along with our Head and Deputy boys and girls attended Bassaleg School for a cluster collaborative council meeting. It was wonderful to see the children working with children from our cluster of primary schools to decide on three “golden rules” for our combined poverty agenda. The children have some work to do back at High Cross before meeting again with the cluster in the Spring Term. Thank you to Mrs Salathiel for supporting the children at both of these events. It is wonderful to hear how engaged in the discussion the children were and the fantastic contributoins they gave. Da iawn pawb!
Next week is the last week for our after school clubs, with the final club for the Autumn term taking place on Friday 5th December 2025. Clubs will resume on Monday 5th January 2026. Children who were registered in clubs for the Autumn term will maintain their place after Christmas.
There are a few spaces for Year 5 and Year 6 children in Digital Den Club, which is on a Wednesday (booking link to the right).
Please note that the Year 5 and 6 Spanish Club with Miss Morris will be changing in January from a Monday to a Thursday, 3:15pm to 4:00pm.
The Year 2 Football Club will not continue in January, however, we have a new after school 'Drawing Club' starting for Year 2 led by Mrs Glencross (booking link to the right).
Today we held a non-uniform day to collect items for the Christmas hampers. Thank you High Cross Families for your extremely kind and generous donations. There are certainly going to be some fabulous hampers up for grabs at the Christmas concerts.
The PTA will be holding a raffle at every concert, with the chance for you to win one of the Christmas hampers. Ticket will be on sale at the concerts. Cash only please.
