Hi, I’m Jayme
I will never forget my first year at Queen’s University. I excelled in high school, earned the prestigious Chancellor’s Scholarship, and started first year with high expectations.
Four months into university, however, I was at risk of losing my scholarship. High school had not prepared me to succeed…
First-year was a learning curve. I had to learn to organize my thoughts and communicate ideas clearly in my assignments. I quickly realized that I would not get the support I needed from my professors, so I sought out academic role models and studied their strategies for success.
Earning back my scholarship, I completed my Bachelor of Arts with Honours and was invited into the Cultural Studies Master’s program at Queen’s.
In my first job as a teaching assistant, I watched successful high school students struggle to find their way within an unfamiliar academic environment. I worked with students to develop their writing skills to communicate ideas clearly and persuasively. Watching their confidence grow as they used these skills across all classes is what inspired me to become a writing coach and university admissions advisor.
In 2018, I took my first backpacking trip to South East Asia. Growing up trilingual, this was my first time immersed in a language I did not understand. The experience taught me the importance of communication and started my journey as an international ESL (English Second Language) teacher. Having travelled through 23 countries with 20 official languages and countless more from fellow travellers, my interactions with students, teachers, and educational systems throughout the world has shaped my teaching style today.
I moved to Pemberton in 2020 to satisfy my love of the mountains and living close to nature. I fell in love with our community and opened High Altitude Tutoring to address students' unique needs and learning styles in the Sea to Sky.
I understand how it feels to struggle. I would love to help you develop the writing skills you need to achieve your goals.
