Class Descriptions

Those students who require supportive reading as determined by the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress, teacher recommendations and other data points, such as classroom benchmark assessments, will meet in a small group setting 5 times a week.

Students in Kindergarten and grade 1 will study phonics and beginner reader strategies. In Kindergarten we use the Leveled Literacy Intervention Program, a research based intervention program that is used to improve and strengthen reading skills.

Students in grades 2 through 5 will learn strategies to strengthen reading skills and help students become more independent readers. Students in grades 3 through 5 will also work on the skills and strategies that are required for the New York State English Language Arts Assessment. We also use the Leveled Literacy Intervention Program in grades 2 through 5.

I look forward to another great year at East Street Elementary!
