The youth essay competition is open to 6th, 7th and 8th graders through Veterans of Foreign Wars posts throughout the country.

A team of brainy Hicksville high-schoolers recently took first place at a robotics competition after their machine was able to complete a series of tasks involving a rocket ship, hatches and cargo.

Heads up parents — the deadline to submit lottery applications for the Hicksville Public School District's 2020-21 pre-K program is rapidly approaching and enrollment is limited.

The Hicksville Fire Department has held its yearly Fire Prevention Poster contest and 47 students were recognized at an awards ceremony. The department received 2,000 posters from each Hicksville school, officials said.

The district is developing a comprehensive communication plan as part of one of the Board of Education's goals. Part of the plan was to increase the district's outreach to the community through social media.

The high school music phenom was chosen out of 6,000 students across the state to participate in the annual Winter All-State Conference.

Hicksville Middle School students participated in a variety of creative lessons and activities on Sept. 11 to remember the 9/11 attacks.
