Mr. Belvin, 8th Grade Social Studies
Welcome to Mr. Belvin's 8th grade Social Studies class. We will be focusing on United States History from early colonization to present day. We will also be learning about North Carolina's part in the development of our country.
This is my 16th year teaching here at Grandview and I have loved every minute of it. Outside of school I enjoy refereeing soccer, hiking and fishing, and spending time with my family.
Resources & information
I will be using a variety of resources to help my students gain the knowledge they need to be successful. Students will be analyzing primary source documents focusing on text, context, and subtext. They will be working on literacy by reading articles from NewsELA.com andOnline.KidsDiscover.com and answering comprehension questions. They will also be using Flocabulary,com to work on content vocabulary as well as reading comprehension. Students will learn about US History by watching video clips on EdPuzzle.com and answering content comprehension questions . They will write short content driven essays, including participating the Elk's Lodge Americanism essay contest.
