Verna Breland

Ms. Verna Breland is an assistant principal at Hickory High School who began her teaching career as an English teacher at Catawba County’s Fred T. Foard High School. Before leaving Foard, Ms. Breland was named the 2011 Teacher of the Year. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Maryland University College with majors in both English and Business Administration and her Masters in Educational Leadership from Queens University in Charlotte. Ms. Breland has been at Hickory High School since 2011 where she taught English for three years and earned the Wilmer Jenkins Teacher of the Year in 2013. She joined Hickory’s administrative team in 2014 and continues to be excited about being a member of the administration. Ms. Breland believes that every child has value, and every child can learn, and as a result, she is grateful for the opportunity to be an ongoing champion and advocate for all students.
