Greetings! This is my 14th year in Hickory Public Schools. I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a North Carolina Teaching Fellow. I have a bachelor's in middle grades education, ELA and Science. I spent 10 years in the classroom teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th graders ELA, Science, and Social Studies.
I earned my National Board Certification as an Early Adolescence Generalist in 2003. I renewed that certification in 2012. I also hold a master's degree in Curriculum Specialist and a Graduate Certificate in School Leadership from ASU. In 2017 I earned a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Western Carolina University with a concentration in Social Justice and Equity.
Middle School can be a challenging time of life. Young adolescents are changing and developing faster than any other time of life except from ages 1-3. Our teachers have a strong background in middle level education and understand the developmental needs of young adolescents. In addition to that, we enjoy interacting and listening to the great ideas and creativity we see in our students.
I encourage families to reach out to us at Grandview. We want to partner with you to help your child succeed.
Middle School can be tough on parents, too! I recommend ParenTeen Connect for families and their student as they navigate the middle years. For information regarding the curriculum, please visit the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Curriculum Site.
