Regina Hibiki Taiko formed in 2014 as a subsidiary group of the Regina Japanese Canadian Club. We initially used practice taikos made from old car tires and packing tape.
Thanks to the Saskatchewan Art Board and the National Association of Japanese Canadians, we were able to purchase real Japanese taiko drums in 2015.
We received both hands-on and online video-conference based trainings from the Living Sky Taiko in Saskatoon and from the Hinode Taiko in Winnipeg.
In 2016, we incorporated to be Regina Hibiki Taiko Club Inc. and we currently have 14 active members. We have been performing at various venues in sizes such as restaurants, gyms, and auditoriums. With our diverse music repertoire, flexible performances can be delivered. Please contact us for more information!
A Japanese drumming group (上州藤岡上杉管領太鼓 ) visited and mentored us in September 2018 as a part of cultural exchange initiative started between the city of Regina and the Fujioka city in Japan. We are hoping to further develop our drumming skills through this relationship.
