Dear all,
I am very excited to present my updated website with all my presentation materials!
Here is a little background about me.
I am a probationary teacher in Half Hollow Hills Central School District. I started in HHH in 2011 and completed many leave replacements and taught part-time until I was offered a full-time position. I am currently teaching in Candlewood Middle School.
A little about my past, I went to Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School in Plainview, NY. I earned my undergraduate degree in English Education and Spanish Language and Literature at SUNY Stony Brook in the Spring of 2009. I earned my MA at Hofstra University in English Literature in Fall 2010. As of Fall 2017, I will be working on earning my second Master's: MS in Educational Technology through LIU Post. Although I am already using a lot of technology in my classroom, I look forward to learning and utilizing new technology to amplify the educational environment.
Before coming to Half Hollow Hills, I substituted in West Islip, Locust Valley, and Comsewogue school districts. My passion has always been teaching and, as I was substituting, I got involved in an English teacher organization, The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). I have spoken at their yearly conferences since 2009. I have recently spoke at SUNY Stony Brook and at BOCES Education Summits.
I have taught 7, 8, 9R, 9H, 10R, 10H, 11R, College Writing, Sports Literature, Journalism, Public Speaking, and Film Criticism. I even taught a year at Candlewood Middle School teaching Content Literacy (6th Grade).
During the 2014-2015 school year, I was asked to advise One World Youth Club at HSE. This organization is all about students' moral/character development and helping them become global citizens. I am happy to be advising One World now at Candlewood Middle School.
Best regards,
Mrs. Sharon Holzman
