Dear rising 5th grade students,
I hope you had a wonderful 4th grade year! Students who just completed 4th grade are being asked to complete the Math packet, that was sent home, to help get you ready for 5th grade math. It covers many of the topics that you learned this year, which we will be building on next year. Although the topics in this packet are review, each page includes a brief reteaching section (with an explanation and example) to help guide you.
Please show all of your work for every problem in the packet. You can show your work in the space provided for each question. If you need additional space for your work, be sure to number any problems you solve on extra paper, and staple the extra paper(s) to your packet. You should not try to complete the assignment in one day and instead complete several problems a day throughout the summer. If there are problems you do not know, please make your best attempt. An adult should not DO the problem for you, but can gently remind you of any forgotten or “rusty” skills. This packet is due on the first day of school and will count as your first grade of the new school year.
In addition, students leaving 4th grade should be proficient in the following areas, please review and practice the following skills:
(ixl is always a great resource for grade level practice!)
· Multiplication facts up to 12 with no counting on fingers
· Long division with remainders (including using 2 digit divisors and zeros in the quotient)
· Fraction sense- being able to associate with actual amounts and how fractions compare
· Addition and subtraction of multi-digit numbers (especially borrowing/regrouping)
· Multiplication by 2-digit factors
Thank you in advance for your continued math practice over the summer months!
Warm Regards,
Mrs. Coles
