As the children return to school this September, it is important to remember that Online Safety continues to be an area that we must regularly discuss with them - ensuring they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to stay safe. On Thursday 17th June, all children had the chance to spend time with an online safety expert and learn all about how to ensure that they are staying safe online. The topics that were discussed included online gaming, social media apps and live streaming. Please talk to your children about what they have learnt, and encourage them to speak to a trusted adult if they are ever concerned about anything they see online.
With children playing computer games more often at the moment, it is really important that you have a good understanding of the age appropriateness of the games they are playing. Please click on this link https://pegi.info/ to go to the PEGI rating website. A website that allows you to search on any game and it will tell you what the age rating is. For example Fortnite is PEGI 12, so no children at Houndsfield should be playing this game.
Over the past couple of weeks, we have had the pleasure of being able to invite PC Odong, our community Police Officer, into Houndsfield, to talk to children in years 4, 5 and 6 about Online Safety. His advice about keeping private information safe and never accepting a friend request from someone you do not know was well received and clearly understood by our pupils.
With more and more children being online at a younger age, we feel that it is important that parents are able to discuss the potential dangers that children might face when using the internet.
