Code Avengers is a Hamilton-based EdTech company, passionate about quality education and making digital learning fun and effective by applying innovative methods to empower everyone to learn successfully. Their website CodeAvengers.com is an interactive online learning platform that teaches programming, web development, design, and computer science through coding tasks and other interactive activities.
Last year in July, Minister Parata announced that Digital Technologies will be included in The New Zealand Curriculum (year 1 - 10) and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa from 2018. She also announced that her department would make funds available to strengthen digital technology education through collaboration between schools, Kura, communities of learning and industry. Code Avengers won a contract with the Ministry of Education to create online interactive lessons and activities and teacher resources that align with aspects of the new Digital Technologies Curriculum such as programming, algorithms and data representation.
As part of this resource development, Code Avengers teaching team will be running pilot sessions this year at a few selected schools in the Hamilton North-West Community of Learning (Te Kowhai School, Aberdeen Primary School, Vardon Primary School, Maeroa Intermediate School and Fraser High School). The running of these sessions will provide Code Avengers and the Government with feedback on how the students interact with and learn from the new material, which they will use to develop new lessons/activities and refine the existing ones. All students will have their own CodeAvengers.com account that they will have FREE access to so that they can continue learning at home if they wish.
In the 21st century, information technology is all around us in our daily life and throughout society. Having digital skills is becoming more and more essential and foundational to preparing students for the future. He Waka Eke Noa is proud to partner with Code Avengers, and is excited about our students being among the first to get a taste of what's to come with the new Digital Technologies Curriculum set to be rolled out in 2018.
