I am a physical geographer and the head of the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Haifa, Israel. I earned my PhD in fluvial geomorphology and sediment transport from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.
In recent years, my research has focused on the role of disturbances in Mediterranean ecosystems, particularly the impact of wildfires on soil-vegetation dynamics, hydrological processes, and erosion. I employ both field and laboratory experiments to investigate how fire influences vegetation regeneration and affects soil and ash properties.
Currently, I am involved in several European and local projects that examine the effects of fire— including post-fire management—on ecosystems, urban hydrology, and ecosystem services. I have authored over 70 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings. Additionally, I serve as an associate editor for "Land Degradation and Development" and "Catena," and I am a member of the COMLAND steering committee within the Commission on Land Degradation and Desertification of the International Geographical Union.
