Please send these items on the first day of school:

1 pocket folder
1 set of sturdy headphones (earbuds not recommended)
1 sturdy, full-sized, traditional backpack
10"x7" pencil pouch (no boxes please)
box of 24 crayola crayons
2 sharpened pencils
1 pink eraser
2 thin black whiteboard markers
1 pair of children's scissors
1 large glue stick

Welcome to 1st Grade!

I hope you all are ready for a fun and exciting year! My objective is to make sure your child is learning, engaged, and supported through this year of schooling. At the end of the school year the goal is for your child to:

Writing/Language Arts:

Know basic sentences format (begins with a capital letter, ends with a punctuation mark)
Write one paragraph with a topic, 3 details, and a closing sentence
Write letters, legibly on the line (with proper letter placement)
Write words with adequate spacing
Use spelling patterns to help spell words and spell frequently used words correctly
Know common opposites

Reading:

Know how to use decoding strategies and context clues to sound out words and develop
word knowledge
Read at a level 16-18
Sit and read silently for 20 minutes or more
Distinguish vowels from consonant letters and know their sounds

Math:

Count by ones, twos, fives, and tens to 120.
Know the addition and subtraction facts to 20
Be familiar with doubles math facts
Know place value- Ones, tens and hundreds

Technology:

Know the parts of a computer: mouse, screen, keyboard, etc.
Know what a computer can be used for
Have beginning keyboard skills (space, shift, return)
Other Skills:
Raise his/her hand to ask question
Read words, such as in, out, over, beneath, under, left, right, etc.
Have hallway and bathroom etiquette skills
Be able to communicate needs and wants
Be able to keep desk organized
