SUMMER SCHOOL

What time & where is Summer School going to be held?

Summer School has 2 sessions. Your child will be placed in one of the two sessions.

Session 1 (Group A): 7:30am to 10:00am

Session 2 (Group B): 11:00am to 1:30pm

Students will attend 2 days a week either (M/Tue or W/Thu). Students have been notified via their student Gmail account.

The summer school office will be at Oak Hills High School, 7625 Cataba Road Hesperia CA 92344. Office staff will be there from 7am-1:30pm.

How will your student know if they are accepted and enrolled in Summer School?

Students will be emailed May 7th to your school email address. If they do not receive an email, they could possibly be placed on the waitlist. In order to check if they were placed in a class or not, please email admin.summer@hesperiausd.org.

We will also be reaching out to Parents via SMS messages and phone calls. Please be aware that we use numbers that we have on file at school sites via Infinite Campus.

When does Summer School start?

Summer school runs from June 2, 2021 to June 29, 2021. Students may require the entire 4 weeks to finish the program or they may be able to finish early.

All students need to report in person or online on June 2nd. If you are not scheduled to attend classes on those days, please log in to Google Classroom so that you can check in with you teacher.

So if you were assigned W/Thursday you will be in person and attend on June 2nd and 3rd. If you are assigned M/Tuesday you will work online.

If you are assigned M/T you will attend on June 7th and 8th. If you are assigned W/Thursday you will work online.

This cycle of coming on campus and working at home will continue until you receive your credits.

How were students selected for classes?

Based on when the students submitted their registration, we go based on the timestamp of submission as well as the school site they attend. In order to serve all the students in the district, we work to select students equal and fair.

What if you, as the Parent, want to ensure your child is placed on the Summer School list?

Parents (Guardians) can fill out the registration for their child. Parents have until March 19th to get their student registered. If you miss that deadline please reach out to your students Counselor or email admin.summer@hesperiausd.org.

Is Summer School mandatory?

Summer School is not mandatory, but highly encouraged for students who have failed classes. Middle School students can prevent being Retained. High School students can earn credits necessary for graduation. For students who have not failed classes, have the opportunity to take courses for advancement (please see list below).

Transportation

We will be offering Transportation for students who do not attend Oak Hills. Here are the locations and times for pick-up & drop off:

Hesperia Junior, Hesperia High, Cedar Middle, Ranchero Middle & Sultana

  • Pick Up 6:45 for Block 1, 10:30 for Block 2

  • Drop Off should be around 10:30 for Block 1, 2:00 for Block 2

Nutrition Services

Nutritional Services will be offering lunch from 10am to 11am Monday through Thursday.

What are the Summer School academic policies?

  • HUSD Summer School students must understand that Summer School is an opportunity to further their education and avoid possible retention. Students must also understand that attending summer school is a privilege and not a right. All Summer School students must abide by the following guidelines in order to attend Summer School and be successful.

  • Daily at-school attendance is required! 2 tardies/late arrivals counts as a full day of absence. 3 days of absence results in being dropped from Summer School without warning. It is extremely important that when students have completed all assigned credits that they check in with their teacher on campus and in person to verify that they have finished all the required credits that they need.

  • If you are not showing progress on completing coursework you will be dropped from the program.

  • All regular school rules apply. Any discipline problems will result in immediate dismissal from Summer School. Serious infractions will result in HUSD Police involvement and possible citation.

  • Transportation is not provided for Summer School, it is the responsibility of each student to get to school on time each and every day.

  • HUSD dress code policy will be enforced, including no oversized clothing, no clothing that is too tight or revealing, and no clothing that promotes hate, intolerance, illegal activity, or signifies gang affiliation. Summer intersession operates with a no hat/beanie policy. And/or any other dress deemed inappropriate by Summer School Admin and/or HUSD School Police.

  • Electronic devices, such as cell phones, MP3 players or games are not allowed. If a student chooses to bring a cell phone to school, it must be placed in the off position, and it may not be visible. In addition to the electronics policy, students that use the Chromebook/iPad for non academic endeavors, the student will be dropped from summer school.
