Are the main challenge students allowed to cut down their popsicle sticks?
Yes, the students can cut the popsicle sticks down for their tower.
Are students building their towers for the main challenge the day of or building ahead of time?
Students will be designing and building their structure ahead of time and bringing it to a competition day to test the structure against 3 different levels of intensity using a shaking table. Structures will be stuck to the platform for testing.
How will the testing take place in order to be fair?
A shake table will be created for the competition day testing. The students' structure will be adhered temporarily to the platform. When it is your team's time for judging, students will present their research presentation in front of the judges. Judges will inspect the design and then the testing will commence.
In order to keep it fair there will be 3 different pull points to represent each of the 3 intensities. So the starting position will always be the same depending on intensity.
