The tier system helps us provide students with the appropriate level of support based on their needs.
Tier 1: Universal Classroom Support
This is the support all students receive in the classroom. It includes positive relationships, clear expectations, redirection, teacher check-ins, classroom interventions, and opportunities to regulate without leaving class.
Tier 1.5: The N.E.S.T. Wellness Center
The N.E.S.T. serves as a bridge between classroom support and targeted counseling. It is intended for students who need a brief opportunity to regulate, reset, and return to learning. Students may visit when they feel overwhelmed, anxious, frustrated, or emotionally dysregulated.
The N.E.S.T. is not intended for students to avoid class, assignments, tests, or consequences. It is also not a replacement for counseling or discipline. Whenever possible, classroom-based Tier 1 strategies should be attempted before referring a student to The N.E.S.T.
Tier 2: Targeted Support
Tier 2 is for students who need more consistent support. This may include individual counseling, small groups, scheduled check-ins, conflict resolution, academic interventions, and progress monitoring.
Tier 3: Intensive Individualized Support
Tier 3 is for students with significant or ongoing needs requiring individualized planning, safety intervention, intensive services, or referrals to outside support.
Our goal is to provide the right level of support at the right time while helping students remain in class and access instruction. If you are unsure where a student should be referred, please contact the Counseling Office for guidance.
