Frequently Asked Questions

How can we help?

It can be daunting and sometimes frustrating to learn how to use new tools, technology, devices, and websites. Hopefully this page will offer some answers to what you might be struggling with. If what you're not looking for isn't here, you can use the form below to request help with a specific item.

Please note, that in some cases, the best resource for using a particular tool will be the individual teacher who is using the tool in their classroom, or even the support offered by the tool itself.

How do I find my username and password?

Your school username and password is provided by the technology department at Herkimer CSD. If you are unsure what yours is, you'll have to contact your child's teacher for that information. Usernames and passwords will not be distributed via digital medium (email, text message, etc) for the sake of security.

Can I borrow a device for home learning?

Absolutely you can! We're here to support learning any way that we can. Click HERE to go to the Device Loan Program website and complete the form that is there. Someone from the school will follow up with you.

My computer seems to always sign in with a personal account.

Many people have their personal accounts set to automatically log in to specific websites when they visit those sites. It's a very handy tool. Sometimes it can cause problems when you are using another account though. Try opening an incognito window instead. In Google Chrome, click on the three dots in the top right of the screen, and select New Incognito Window.

Why is my school account blocking certain websites?

By law, school-provided accounts must have content filtering applied. Therefore, if you are signed into a device with that account, there will be filtering taking place in the background, exactly the same as it would take place inside the school building. If you run across a website that you believe was filtered in error, you can contact the Technology Dept at the school and they will evaluate whether it should be unblocked.
