I am so excited to teach American Sign Language (ASL) at Heritage Academy Gateway! I have a great love for this language and I can't wait to share it with my scholars.

I became curious about ASL when my 2 Deaf cousins came to visit. They taught me a little bit each time they came. When I entered high school, I took as many ASL classes as I could. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to transfer to Phoenix College to join their 3 year ASL program.

After graduating, I interpreted for a Deaf Child in elementary school for a couple of years as I attended Northern Arizona University. I received my BS in Education with a minor in American Sign Language. I taught for Mesa Public Schools and had 6 wonderful Deaf students mainstreamed into my classroom.

When my son was born, I made the tough decision to stay home. I worked part-time for Arizona State School for the Deaf and Blind (ASDB) Parent Outreach Program, assisting families with Deaf children. I enjoyed teaching many different families ASL. After all 4 of my children started school, I decided to return to the classroom.

I have always loved to teach my children and others how to sign!
