Welcome to Heritage Digital Imaging class
In this course we will begin learning the tools needed to become a professional photographer. We will also practice professional skills such as courtesy and arriving on time to our work. Whether you choose to pursue a career in photography or not these skills will continue to benefit you throughout your life. I expect this class to be a fun time where we work together to improve our skills.
Instructor Name: Ganon Connelly
Email : gconnelly@heritageacademyaz@gmail.com
Office Location: Main Computer Lab (realistically for now I'm working from my home office since campus is closed)
Office Hours: For now remote office hours are W, TH from 1 to 2 pm. I will be available during those times via Google Meets or you can feel free to email me at other times. I will do my best to reply promptly but expect slower replies if you email me during the evening or over the weekend. Once we are back in person my hours will be 7:30 -8 am M, W right before class.
A DSLR with 6 MP or better is very helpful but not required. The school does not currently have enough cameras for each student to be able to use one without taking turns. If you do not currently own a DSLR you may check one out on August 4th to use on class assignments.
Mesa Library Card -Students with a library card can access a professional training site called Lynda.com free of charge. Many high-quality photography and photoshop classes are available here.
Thumb drive (Optional) Can be used to transport home any of the work that you do that you wish to keep. The servers will be erased at the end of the semester so any work you do not take with you will be lost.
There are a number of resources that students will have access to, assuming classes are permitted to meet in person again. These include computers with access to programs like Photoshop and Premiere, tripods, lens filters, lights, reflectors etc. These items will not be required during remote learning.
Google classroom Class code: egmctwx
Classroom.google.com -is where most assignments will be turned in
\\haservermesa\gconnelly\YourName - is a network folder where your work can be saved while you are working on it. (We will use this once we are able to meet in person again)

Tardy policy – Being late is very unprofessional and would result in loss of employment as a photographer (imagine your photographer missing the first few minutes of your wedding!). Heritage policy is that on time means being in your seat with the materials needed for class when the final bell rings. Being late will cost you participation points for the day and may cause you to miss class entirely. On field trip days we leave as soon as role is taken. If you miss the vans, you will lose out on the points that could have been earned that day.
Excused Absence – Please make every effort to stay healthy. If you miss a field trip day it will be difficult for you to make up the missed work. You will have the same number of days as those missed to make up the work.
Cell Phones – Using cellphones in class, without first receiving permission is discourteous at best. This is your first, and only reminder. If I see one out during class, it will be confiscated and turned over to the Principal and you will receive a log entry. There may be a time when students may be permitted to take photos using their cellphone. However, this will be the exception so be sure to ask me before ever taking out your phone to prevent it being confiscated.
Class Fee -A fee is required to participate in this class. This nominal fee does not come close to covering the cost of the equipment used in this class but does help defray some of the cost making it possible for more student access. Students who do not pay the fee will not be allowed to stay in the class. (The class fee will not be collected while we are not permitted to meet in person)
My current plan is to start by teaching the units that best lend themselves to a remote environment. Hopefully, we will be able to meet in person soon. That will make it much easier to cover things like Photoshop and units that require other equipment such as tripods. For advanced students, who may have access to additional tools, I plan to allow alternate assignments that allow them to continue to challenge themselves. Feel free to message me through Google Classroom or email me if you are a returning student wanting to work on more advanced projects.
