Youth Global climate summit in NYC

By Simeon Morin

Youth leaders are teaming up in New York to address one of today's rising problems.

Hundreds of youth climate leaders from all over the globe, including Greta Thurnberg. Most of the delegates skipped school. The summit took place at the UN headquarters in New York City.

Greta Thurnberg started the summit with a speech.

What do they want?

They arrived knowing exactly what they wanted.

They wanted more than awareness, they wanted a seat on the board.

Komal Karishma Kumar stateted “From young leaders all over the world, we are here in our rightful place to demand consequential climate action,”. They had a list of things such as phasing out of the use of fossil fuels. They also wanted the inclusion of youth in policy making.

Nina Möger Bengtsson, an activist from Denmark said, “We change our diets. We change our habits. We take to the streets”

Climate change is even affecting these young climate activists lives.

Such as Kristen Brown who is from the Hawiian Island of Oahu. She has watched parts of coastal road crumble into the sea due to the increased sea erosion. Some of the most vulnerable countries are low lying island countries like the Maldives and Tuvalu. If the ocean level rises more than two to three meters these islands will be underwater!

They have solutions!!

People like Monika Selina Seyfried have introduced amazing solutions. Monika’s is Grow Your Own Cloud. It's a project focused on a cleaner way of storing information. IN PLANTS! She plans to store information in the DNA of the plant.
