Term 1 2627 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 76 Thursday 15 October 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
Another busy and brilliant week at Herbert Morrison! Our children are working their socks off, learning from mistakes and showing real determination. We want that energy to continue beyond the classroom too — and you told us you wanted more clubs on site. My letter is a bit of a bullet point update - I have so much to tell you!
You asked — we actioned!
After half term, Spanish Club is coming to Herbert Morrison, with separate KS1 and KS2 sessions at £10 per session. Booking will be directly through the Spanish Club.
JAGs Football Club will run on Wednesdays — please book through the JAGs booking system, rather than through school.
And, by popular demand, Choir Club is back! Wednesdays after half term, £5 per session, bookable through MCAS.
Something else to look forward to: Spanish Club is coming to Herbert Morrison, with separate KS1 and KS2 sessions at £10 per session - we are jut waiting on the dates to be confirmed. Booking will be directly through the Spanish Club.
Legends of Latin – Myths & Legends Club will launch in January on a Tuesday, £5 per session. Myths, legends and a little Latin — what’s not to love?
Coach Tom could be back too! We are exploring before-school Sports Clubs at 8am on Thursdays for Years 1–3 and 8am on Fridays for Years 4–6, at £5 per session. We need to know whether there is enough interest before confirming, so please tell us here.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined our Black History Month Open Morning. The school was buzzing with vibrant, purposeful learning — including a rather impressive Year 2 water feature!
Thank you also to the 132 families booked for Parents’ Evening tonight. Your Parent Survey feedback has been incredibly positive and, as you will see below, we are already acting on your ideas. Your voice matters.
We are also delighted to have achieved Bronze Travel for Life on our very first application! Next stop: Silver… and then Gold! Please keep supporting us with walking, cycling, scooting and road-safety initiatives.
Don't miss our Parent Wellbeing section below, which contains a wide range of parenting and family support. If you access any of the services, please do let us know.
A practical reminder: lost property will be cleared at the end of each term, so please check the lost-property point before then — and name everything!
Finally, Breakfast Club Research has asked families to complete a short survey. If you have five minutes, please share your views here.
Thank you, as always, for working with us.
Mrs Peake
Proud Headteacher

We are delighted to share the positive findings from our latest Pupil Voice Survey! Our children told us that what they value most about Herbert Morrison is kind teachers, supportive adults and friendships.
An impressive 91% said they have an adult they can talk to, 84% enjoy taking part in clubs and activities, and 81% feel safe at school all or most of the time. Children also spoke enthusiastically about their learning, particularly PE, Maths, Art, Computing and DT.

✨🐷🚜 Farm-tastic fun for Year 2! 🐑🌾
Year 2 had the best time exploring the farm! We discovered where our food comes from, got up close with some furry (and hungry! 😋) friends, and even had a go at feeding the animals! 🐐🥕🐄
A huge thank you to all of the wonderful grown ups who came along to support us and helped make our trip such a fun and memorable day! 💚✨
A day full of learning, laughter and plenty of farmyard fun! 🚜
What an inspirational start to the week! 🎥🦁🌍
A huge thank you to wildlife cinematographer Sophie Darlington for a fascinating presentation about her incredible work filming wildlife around the world.
Our pupils asked some excellent, thoughtful questions and were completely captivated by Sophie’s stories and experiences. We may even have inspired a few future filmmakers today! 🎬✨

Maths fluency is being able to recall and use number facts quickly, accurately and confidently — so children can focus their thinking on solving more challenging problems.
You can practise maths fluency at home in just a few minutes! Pick a number fact or times table and have some fun:
Say it again – can you answer a little quicker this time?
Mix it up – if 4 × 6 = 24, what is 6 × 4? What is 24 ÷ 6?
Spot the pattern – what do you notice? What stays the same? What changes?
Explain how you know – can you find another way to work it out?
Know it. Use it. Explain it. Maths fluency! 🧮✨

A Reminder About Appointments and Holidays
We kindly ask that, wherever possible, parents arrange medical or personal appointments for their children outside of school hours. There are only 190 school days in the year, but a generous 175 non-school days available for holidays, family time, and events. By keeping appointments to these non-school days, we can work together to make sure every child enjoys the very best attendance and learning opportunities. Thank you for your support!
📢 Illness Reminder 📢
If your child is unwell at school, we will call you to collect them. Please ensure we have your up-to-date contact details.
Please remember to inform the school of your child's absence each day; even if the school knows they are home due to vomiting - this is to update school if new symptoms develop. The best way to do this is via Studybugs.
Currently, 70% of parents are using Studybugs—if you’re among the 30% who haven’t signed up yet, please do so as soon as possible!
Please download the STUDY BUGS app and support us in raising our attendance %.
Overall we are at 96.3% for this academic year.
Please download the STUDY BUGS app and support us in raising our attendance %.
Please help your child achieve by ensuring they are in school when they are well enough to be here.
Medical Appointment Documentation
Please ensure all appointments are made outside of school hours.
To help us accurately record absences, please email a copy of any medical appointment texts or appointment cards to the school office for confirmation when your child(ren) is absent for health-related reasons. This ensures their attendance records are kept up-to-date.
When making appointments please ask your doctors for a medical slip or appointment text to give to school.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.

How Parents Book
Bookings follow a regular weekly pattern (e.g., every Monday), secured for the full school year.
This system is similar to the existing instalment plan model that many families are familiar with.
We are making this change to:
Support demand management where waiting lists are common
Ensure fair access for families looking to secure consistent care
Enable earlier, more accurate staffing and programming plans
Rise then Shine
Rise then Shine Breakfast Club IS ON HOLD AT THE MOMENT DUE TO LOW DEMAND. IT RUNS from 7.30am - DO LET JAGS KNOW IF YOU NEED IT AND AS SOON AS WE HAVE ENOUGH DEMAND WE CAN RE-OPEN IT.
The FREE school Breakfast Club is still available for all pupils ( Reception Class to Year 6) from 8.30am.
After School Clubs
JAG’s After School Clubs, called Stay And Play, offer fun, happy and safe places for children to play freely across age groups and take part in structured activities such as arts and crafts and active play. Providing an energising end to the school day, children can join group activities, enjoy a healthy snack, or chill out with toys and games that are all set up and ready for them to enjoy.

The questions of the week are-
What does it look like when people work together?
Why is it important to include everyone?
Can people be different and still be united? How?
What could we do in our school to make everyone feel that they belong?
We discuss the values and question of the week in assembly. Discuss these with your child at home.
The value of the week is: UNITY
Feeling a sense of belonging plays a vital role in children’s wellbeing, confidence and gives them the ability to thrive, both academically and emotionally. This Wake Up Wednesday guide explores why belonging matters and how small, everyday interactions can make a meaningful difference in helping children feel accepted and included.
Offering ten practical, easy-to-apply tips, the guide supports parents and educators in building positive relationships, celebrating individuality and fostering inclusive cultures at home and in school. Featuring information on language choices, emotional validation and shared decision-making, this edition of #WakeUpWednesday highlights simple ways to strengthen connection and nurture a genuine sense of togetherness.
