Term 6 2526 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 70 Thursday 4th June 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we move through the final term, our Value of the Week is Hope. This builds on our recent focus on being optimistic and encourages children to “always look on the bright side.” We will be talking to the children about staying positive, looking forward, and believing that good things can happen, even when things feel challenging.
A polite reminder: if you have any concerns, please do not approach other parents or children. Instead, please speak directly to your child’s class teacher. Encourage your child to tell an adult of any concern straight away so we can support them immediately. We are here to help and want to work with you to resolve any worries in the right way.
Your child’s class teacher should always be your first port of call. If you need a quick chat, the end of the school day is usually the best time. If you need a longer conversation, please make an appointment so that the teacher can give you the time and attention needed.
We are also very keen to hear the children’s voices. You have been invited to complete an online survey with your child, but so far only 30 children have had the opportunity to share their views. I am extending the deadline until Friday at 3:30pm. Please do sit with your child and go through THIS survey together. Thank you in advance for supporting this.
We have been reviewing online safety in an eventful Internet Safety Week at school. Ask your child to tell you about the SMART with a HEART poster which is a useful way to remember how to keep yourself safe on line both in and out of school.
Do check out our Instagram HMPrimarySchool if you would like to see what Year 5, Year 6 and some of our staff are up to this weekend — School Journey Residential, here we come! It is always such a highlight of the year. Please send good weather our way!
Finally, we are now in the final term and it is time for one last big push! There is so much to look forward to, including Sports Day, School Journey, a theatre show coming to town, Year 6 Graduation, and the much-anticipated HM Has Talent Show.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Mrs Peake
Headteacher
As the weather warms up the jumpers come off - please make sure EVERY items has a name in it. Thank you in advance.
🌿 GOOD TO BE GREEN 🌿
What a fantastic Term 5 we had! From exciting activities to brilliant learning moments, it’s been amazing to see everyone getting involved, trying new things, and challenging themselves every single day.
Remember — staying green means:
✅ Challenging yourself
✅ Showing positive behaviour
✅ Trying your best
✅ Being ready to learn every day
Year 3
History
To support Year 3’s writing of an explanation text about the mummification process in Ancient Egypt, they had great fun mummifying a tomato! They could clearly describe the steps involved and used technical vocabulary in their explanations. We can’t wait to see what happens when we remove the salt from the tomatoes. @hmprimaryschool
Year Nursery
English
Open day in Nursery today, targeted using play to build language and sentence structure. We also targeted fine motor skills with finger gym tasks to strengthen fingers, which will support writing! Thank you parents for making our learning such fun!
Year 5 and 6
PE
Congratulations to the HM Year 5 and 6 Football Team! ⚽🏆
A huge well done to our HM football team, who played brilliantly at Pimlico School on Wednesday and were gracious winners.
The team received so many compliments — not only for their fantastic sporting skills, but also for their excellent sporting attitude.
Coach Max said he was incredibly proud to be there with you all!

Reception Library Visit 📚✨
Our Reception class had a wonderful trip to the library!
The children were a credit to the school, with one parent commenting: “The children were absolutely beautifully behaved throughout — it was very impressive indeed.”
A huge thank you to our parent helpers for supporting the visit and helping make it such a lovely experience for the children.
Well done, Reception! 👏📚

We wore green today for Mental Health Awareness! 💚
What fun we’ve had making sure our brains are happy. We enjoyed a special playtime, an awards celebration, and even music from a professional pianist — what joy!
And guess what… Green Team won! 🌿🏆
Whole School
Music Inspiration
We were incredibly lucky to welcome Marcelo Bratke today, who shared his amazing musical skills and inspiring life story with us. 🎹✨
Our pupils were captivated by his music and moved by his journey. What a wonderful reminder of the power of creativity, determination and following your passion.
Thank you, Marcelo — we were truly inspired! 🌟
Whole School
English Open Morning
Thank you to all our parents and carers who joined us for our English open morning. It was wonderful to see you working alongside your child in class, sharing ideas, asking questions and exploring language together.
Every conversation, every encouraging word and every moment spent reading, writing and talking together helps children grow in confidence. Words can inspire, support, challenge and celebrate — and today was a lovely reminder of the power they have.
These children have been recognised for their incredible effort and excellence! They will receive a golden certificate, a big round of applause during the celebration assembly, and a coveted spot in the prestigious Gold Book. Well done to all our shining stars!
We are so proud of you!

Medical Appointment Documentation

The question of the week is -
Is there more happiness or more sadness in the world?
We discuss the values and question of the week in assembly. Discuss these with your child at home.
The value of the week is: HOPE
If a child experiences a severe allergic reaction, every second counts. This week’s guide gives a clear, practical overview of adrenaline auto-injectors – lifesaving devices designed for emergency use when anaphylaxis strikes. It covers both EpiPen and Jext models, walking readers through how to recognise the symptoms and administer treatment.
Alongside a visual flowchart of what to do in an emergency, the guide reinforces key points such as lying the patient down, calling 999, and always carrying two AAIs. It also reminds us that adrenaline is safe – and that using it promptly is always better than waiting. This guide is a must-read for educators, carers, and parents alike.
Please ALWAYS check and follow the age restrictions for all social media platforms. Just like age ratings on films, books and games, these restrictions are in place to help keep children safe. It is your responsibility to enforce these at home and ensure your child is using online platforms safely.
As part of this, please consider the following safety checks:
Do you know your child’s passwords for the apps and platforms they use?
Do you regularly check their browsing history, messages, and online activity?
Do you supervise the amount of time your child spends online and what they are accessing?
Do you have parental controls or safety settings in place on ALL devices and apps?
SPECIAL DIETRY REQUIREMENTS
If your child has an allergy please scan this code and ensure that you complete the new caters online information. We have passed over the information we have and it is all going digital now. Please feel free to speak to a member of staff if you need any support with this.
All allergy referals must be accompanied by medical evidence.
Thank you.
