Teacher Hours:
I will answer emails within 24 hours of receiving them during the week, during the hours of 7 am-4 pm. If I am emailed during the weekend, I will respond before school Monday morning. I may check my email during the weekend briefly, but for urgent matters that require a quick response, I recommend contacting the school office.
Communication:
The best way to reach me is via email: nstreed@hephatha.net
Volunteer Hours:
I always love having some extra hands in my classroom! Parents are able to volunteer by helping in small groups, donating supplies on my Amazon wishlist, prepping activities, helping during field trips, etc. More information will be given on this at Back to School Night. Parents are required 50 volunteer hours per year.
(Donations not on Amazon list): Water bottles and allergy friendly snacks for when students forget to bring those items to school.
Attendance:
School begins at 8:20 am, and dismissal is at 3:00 pm. Remember that students should not arrive before 8:10 am or stay after 3:15 pm unless they are in an after-school program. Classrooms are open to students at 8:10 am. Students who arrive at school after the tardy bell must go to the school office to get an admission slip before going to class. If your student is absent, please submit the reason for the absence via Hephatha’s mobile app. After 7 unexcused tardies, per policy, students must sit out one recess. After 7 absences per trimester, students will not be given makeup work without a doctor's note.
Reminder: The school is a closed campus starting at 3:30 pm daily, so any students not checked into SAC must be off campus. The playground closes at 3:30. The only exception is home sports games.
Please note: Any time that students are picked up early and do not return to school counts as a 1/2 day absence.
Dismissal:
Classroom doors will open for dismissal at 3 pm. At 3:10, any students still in the classroom will be taken to SAC and can be picked up there.
Chapel:
Chapel is every Wednesday and students are to dress in their chapel attire. There will be one chapel that is led by 2nd grade, date TBD. Students will provide a message and parents are encouraged to attend this chapel.
(See the handbook linked at the bottom of this page for more chapel attire information.)
Homework:
Students will come home with a homework packet each Monday and should return it each Friday. The packets will go over what we have recently learned. Please support your child’s growth by guiding them through the concepts, rather than doing it for them.
Personal Items:
Please try to have all of your student’s personal supplies labeled with their last name or initials. This will minimize the amount of lost jackets, water bottles, and other belongings.
Water bottles: Please give your child a spill proof water bottle! Open lid bottles spill on the lunches, books, and in backpacks.
Class Parties/Food Allergies:
We will make time to celebrate birthdays on or around a student’s birthday. If parents would like, they may bring a treat for the class. Please be cautious of food allergies. I am willing to keep allergy-friendly treats in my class for students with allergies so that they can have something safe to eat during class parties.
Note: Please bring individual treats that can be easily passed out! (cupcakes, muffins, etc)
Expectations:
As a class, we will create a list of rules that we will want in our class. Students will collaborate to decide what they value in the classroom (speak kindly, be patient with one another, etc). These expectations will be held throughout the school year.
Rewards:
Students will have a reward jar that they will work towards filling up. When they fill up the jar, the class will get to choose a special prize (extra recess, free play, etc).
Report Cards:
Report cards will be sent home at the end of each trimester. Report cards should be looked over and envelopes signed and returned to class.
Dress Code and Additional Information:
Please review the dress code and free dress section in the Family Handbook, linked below.
