How does the production and distribution of a student newscast impact the overall student experience and career choice?
I chose this because I was born with a creative mind, and needed to find a way to let loose my creativity skills. People don’t have to have an interest in the film production industry, but I believe others should have some form of knowledge about it because doing so would not only increase the bar of what to expect of more mature films but also give filmgoers a better appreciation for films. I'm passionate about film because of how films have the power to evoke emotions and deliver messages and themes through their storytelling and I too have a vision and messages of what I wish to show others through the big screen. Also, working with others who have the same passion as you makes life more enjoyable.
From my research, I learned that News broadcasting is more than just politics, knowing what the weather is going to be throughout the week, and spreading rumors about celebrities. It’s about bringing a community together and providing insight to your local citizens about what is going on within your community. My takeaways are that learning about films and television production brings a lot of joy to communities, be it fan-based communities of movies and television shows, where a group of people who enjoy a certain show can talk about it and get along. Or news for a local community, as stated in “Using a School News Program to Promote Positivity During the Pandemic” the news can be used to help bring a community together through being informed about important topics or being told a joke about something that can make the community laugh as one.
Creating Wildcat TV was a week long process. There were two rotating teams each week. A team typically ran the production of WTV. This included the recording, editing and distribution of the news. B team would begin on Monday by pitching ideas and take the rest of the week interviewing and editing packages for the news. The news was recorded each Thursday. It would be pushed out during advisory on Friday mornings. The news would be sent out with a survey to advisories to give us ideas on what to work on the next week as well as segments that our peers were interested in.
During our advisory, we would breakdown what worked and what didn't as far as anchors, transitions and stories. This would help our WTV team prepare for the next week and give us a chance to get used to constructive criticism and also see growth in each others skills each week.
In my AP English literature class, we’re analyzing classic literature such as Beowulf, Frankenstein, and later Hamlet and watching how the film adaptations for both Beowulf and Frankenstein and noticing the differences between book to film, and in Honors World literature I was taught about media bias, spin, and many terms that are associated to film. People would be shocked or confused to learn this but math specifically geometry has some connection to films, specifically to cameras, camera angles, focal lenses, and aspect ratios are essential to all movies, you may not think it but the way a camera is positioned truly does influence the viewer’s emotions. Understanding the physics of a camera’s mechanics like the sound, visuals, and kinematics of the camera is essential to the the viewer’s experience. Understanding the physics helps make the viewers feel the beats the film emits. Learning about world history mainly helps inspire historical narratives, but at the same time, more movies are starting to fall victim to “appeasing politics” which in our nation isn’t the best thing to do to have people who have diverse political perspectives than the one you’re trying to advocate or portray.

Questions I Still Have
The only questions I still have are what does it take to be known as a great actor, writer, and producer aside from knowing the art and the fundamentals of creating a film? I would like to learn more about the film industry, how to master cinematography and photography, and how to influence the audience emotionally through characters, music, and just the atmosphere a film gives as a whole. Not to be smug but I honestly cannot think of anything I could have done differently if I could start over. Maybe I could’ve created and edited more videos during my spare time to perfect my craft so to speak, but aside from that I don’t that I could’ve done anything differently.
Mentors
So for the people who helped me advance further in my career in the film industry of course I have to give thanks to my acting teacher Mrs.Devane for introducing me to the world of acting in my sophomore year, before meeting her I was already interested in acting, but she helped me adore the art and the teamwork that came with it. I have to thank my mother who convinced me that I could become a great actor when I told her my dreams in life, and the one who helped me find a producer from a film studio she works at, who was willing to intern me. My intern program manager from Swirl Films, Les Franck, taught me many things about filmmaking and being a producer, like analyzing scripts and breaking down the budget for films. Most importantly I have to thank Mrs. Patrick for teaching me the fundamentals of filmmaking and showing me what it is like to be a part of a “filmmaking crew” I never thought I would be interested in producing before meeting her. With her being my first-ever high school teacher she didn’t only give me a great introduction to film but to high school which I was a little anxious about, I consider myself blessed to have met her.
Final Statement
I know I said this before but I enjoy Film and television production and I love participating in Wildcat TV. Learning the many aspects of filmmaking and the teamwork that goes into it made me learn a lot about myself on what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I strive to become known as one of the greatest actors, writers, directors, and/or producers and become a mentor for the next generation of filmmakers with potential. I believe that this new era of filmmaking is becoming more mediocre as we rely more on AI and as we try to “forsake ourselves” by trying to appeal to politics. But art isn’t something that is supposed to be soulless or make other closed-minded viewer's minds stay closed for the sake of making a profit it’s supposed to have a soul to show another interpretation of life and should be made from the heart because without art there’s no heart and without a heart there’s no place for art to live in.
