Event Ideas

  • Create a display of diverse books including people with disabilities, different cultures, races, and genres. (ES/MS/HS)

  • Promote reading a variety of literature using a class choice board. The choice board would be created and posted on each classroom’s door. As class’s complete each activity, the teacher will mark it on the choice board. Classes that complete the choice board will receive pencils and bookmarks. (ES)

  • D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) time (20-30 minutes). Students can read whatever they want for the designated time frame. (ES/MS/HS)

  • Have a Book Character Parade. - Celebrate reading and dress like your favorite book character. (ES)

  • Dramatic readings performed by high school students that classes can sign up for. (HS)

  • Create an Escape the Room activity in the media center that will introduce students to a variety of genres and stories to engage in book talks in a different way. (ES/MS/HS)

  • Various faculty members, district leaders, and community members can visit the school to read various books to classes. (police, firemen, Elected Officials, Chick-fil-A cow, etc.)
