Our Mission at Locust Grove High School is to provide an exceptional student experience to each of our students. Our mission is guided by our True BLUE statement and subsequent metrics that ensure our students leave LGHS college, career, and life ready. BLUE stands for:
B - A Belief in the capacity of ourselves and those around us. Within this statement, however, it's not just an arbitrary belief that guides this work, but an intentional instructional system where our students become a part of the instructional process. The lessons created are communicated to our scholars so that they can navigate the lesson objectives in a personalized manner. If we say that why Believe in our kids, they need to become a part of the process and not just a consumer of the process. To determine success in the B category, we look at the following metrics.
Percent of students enrolled in an Honors or AP Class
Percent of students completing a CTAE/Fine Arts/World Language Pathway
Percent of students obtaining an industry certification while in high school
L - Leadership is a big part of the school culture of Locust Grove High School. We strive to create gifted leaders that not only successfully navigate collaboration and critical thinking skills, but also find a passion for education and lead through a service minded project of their choosing. The culmination of this project is know as our Capstone Project, and is highlighted by a Capstone Defense that has our students identifying GA State Standards that they can prove were mastered while conducting the research, the action, and the conclusion of their project. To determine success in the L category, we look at the following metrics.
Capstone Defense
Service Learning Project
Alignment of passion to course content
U - Unification of a community is absolutely essential to the success and culture of school, but it's not just how we get along that defines this portion of our BLUE statement. Instead, it's how students leverage community resources through apprenticeships and internships that make this category truly valuable. Being a 4 by 4 block school, not only does LGHS perfectly align to the college experience (which you will hear more about in the E category, but it also provides plenty of space in a student's schedule for a work-based learning experience where our students can get real-world experience in career-driven fields. This opportunity to network and enter the work industry early, gives LGHS students a student experience that sets them up for success immediately after graduation. To determine success in the U category, we look at the following metrics.
Internship
Work-Based Learning
Cluster Involvement
E - Excelling in post-secondary pursuits is what the E category is all about. Of course, we want our kids to succeed in all areas within the years they are in school, but this category is all about striving to ensure our students have all necessary tools and resources to be successful in a post-secondary world. To determine success in the E category, we look ar the following metrics.
Percent of Dual Enrollment courses taken successfully
Number of Scholarships offered by our senior class
Graduation Rate
The BLUE Mission helps cast the vision and expectations of what an all-inclusive student experience should be, and was collaboratively created by our school leadership, school council, and student leadership to ensure all perspectives were included.
