Students who entered 9th grade in 2024 or after do need 2 credits of the same World Language to graduate from Henry County schools.
Please reach out to your child's counselor for specifics about your child's transcript.
Students who wish to enroll in a 4-year college or university after graduation must have 2 credits of the same World Language. For example: French 1 and French 2, French 2 and French 3, Spanish 1 and Honors Spanish 2, etc.
Sure! However, to satisfy the requirements listed in the answers above, they must still have 2 credits of the same World Language. They are welcome to take another language in addition to satisfying those requirements.
Henry County policy states that your child will continue to the next semester of the course, even if they fail 1st semester, and Union Grove High School does not change schedules mid-year. This is one reason why it is important to get our students on the right track early in their high school World Language classes; their future success in the class is dependent on their early performance.
If they fail a whole year-long course, they will likely be enrolled in something else the following year, or your student can retake the course in summer school or pay to take the course online, either through Covington Academy or another online option. It is always advised to talk to your child's counselor about course requirements and credits.
UGHS offers in-person French and Spanish. There are additional languages offered through online classes, such as Japanese, Chinese, German, and American Sign Language. Reach out to your child's counselor for details.
World Language does not have a cord for pathway completion. Graduates who are part of a Spanish/French National Honor Society receive a cord, but we currently do not have National French Honor Society at UGHS.
In-person language courses at UGHS currently offered are:
Spanish 1, Spanish 2, Honors Spanish 2, Honors Spanish 3, Honors Spanish 4, and AP Spanish
French 1, French 2, Honors French 2 (the availability of Honors French 3 and above is dependent on enrollment numbers)
