Five Tips to Help Your Child Succeed

Many students are now getting their education in a different type of "classroom"-their home. How can you help your child succeed at remote learning?

Five Tips To Help Your Child Succeed

  1. Plan a Routine. Try to maintain a regular schedule just as if your child was at school. LGMS has provided a bell schedule that includes class periods, times, and breaks including lunch. Students are expected to follow this schedule daily.

  2. Cultivate Self-Discipline. Your child needs to realize that a part of growing up is that sometimes yo have to tackle the work at hand-even when you aren't motivated. Don't procrastinate!

  3. Create a Study Space. Have on hand on the materials your child will need. Make the learning environment comfortable, not cozy. They are there to work, not snooze. If you don't have a designated space for your child to do their schoolwork, maybe the kitchen or a bedroom could be set aside as your child's study space during school hours.

  4. Learn to Focus. Help your child to concentrate on the subject at hand and don't multitask. If you child tries to do several things at once, he/she is more likely to make mistakes and take longer to complete work.

  5. Take Breaks. The LGMS schedule was designed to allow breaks in between class periods and during lunch. This "free" time will allow students to stand, stretch, walk outside to get some fresh air, have a snack, take care of personal needs, work on a hobby, talk to their counselor, etc. These breaks are essential for your child's mental well-being. and are necessary to help your child feel refreshed. Be sure that you and your child keeps track of the break times, He/she must be on time for the next class period and ready to work!
