Hello parents and scholars. Congratulations on your acceptance into the FLES Flippen Fabulous Choir/Music Club. I extend the acceptance to parents as well because parents are an integral part of our ensembles. Parents are responsible for getting their children to and from rehearsals and performances as well as ensuring dress code for the various events. To ensure adherence to the expectations of both the FLES Flippen Fabulous Choir and Music Club, a demerit system has been put in place. The following sections detail the expectations for these ensembles. It will be concluded by a list of demerits as well as a contract to be signed by parent, child, director, and principal.

All Choir and Music Club members are required to pay membership dues.
Choir dues are $35.
Music Club dues dues are $20.
These dues are used to cover materials, sheet music, bus fees, and two shirts, both a t-shirt and a polo rental.
Member must have dues paid by the date designated by the director and administration. If there is a concern, it must be addressed with the director in a timely fashion.
Members will be required to attend ALL rehearsals and performances.
Choir rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays.
Music Club will be the first Thursday of every month unless otherwise noted.
A new rehearsal schedule will be sent out monthly with as many details as possible. If you know your child will have to miss an event, please contact the director as soon as possible. In order to have the most effective rehearsal, full attendance is necessary. The absence of even one member will completely change the sound of the ensemble and will make for a poor representation of the actual performance. On the other hand, absence from a performance will throw the event into turmoil, especially if the absentee plays a crucial role in the performance (i.e. soloist, principal role). Demerits will be waived if proper documentation is provided.
Prompt pick-up is just as important as attendance. Because this ensemble meets outside of normal school hours, the director is donating her personal time to the ensemble. As such, late pick-up will not be tolerated. Demerits will be issued for late pick-up. The amount of demerits will be determined by how late the child is picked up. If you know that pick-up will be an issue, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can find an alternative solution. Henry County Schools mandates that a school employee shall not transport any student other than his or her own children in his or her personal vehicle under any circumstances; therefore, the director is not a viable option for alternative transportation. Multiple late pickups will result in dismissal from the ensemble.
Responsibility is a big part of being in an ensemble. Students will be responsible for making sure that he or she has all of his or her materials for EVERY rehearsal and performance. This includes, but is not limited to: water bottle, folders, pencils, correct attire, etc….
Students will adhere to the following dress code unless otherwise directed:
School Events
Choir polo/Club T-shirt
Black dress pants or skirt (unless otherwise directed)
Black close-toed shoes
Simple jewelry only
No perfume or cologne (allergies)

This ensemble can only function if its members form a cohesive group that can work together at all times. Turmoil among members will throw off the dynamics of the ensemble and, therefore, will not be tolerated. Disruption of rehearsals due to interpersonal issues will result in demerits issued to all parties involved. Continued disruption of rehearsals will result in removal of the parties from rehearsal. The length of removal from rehearsal will be at the director’s discretion. These absences from rehearsal, even though director-mandated, will result in demerits due to unexcused absences. In addition to proper behavior in rehearsals, members will also be expected to display proper behavior in their classrooms. Demerits will be issued for behaviors that result in referral to the office as well as suspensions, both in- and out-of-school. Certains behaviors may result in instant dismissal from the ensemble, at the discretion of the director. These can include, but are not limited to: physical altercations, extreme disruption, etc…
Demerits will be tracked using ClassDojo. Demerits may be made up by accomplishing various tasks which may include, but are not limited to: dress up days, assisting teachers with various tasks throughout the building, written assignments, and aiding in fundraising. A half hour of work equals one demerit. Members will be responsible for setting up dates ahead of time. Once 10 demerits have been accrued, members have one week from the time of notification to make up demerits. Demerits from previous years roll over into the current year should a member choose to return to the ensemble.
An accumulation of 10 demerits will result in dismissal from the ensemble. Demerits will be issued for the following reasons:

20-30 minutes late - 3 pts
