What exactly is an Asynchronous Learning Day?
It’s a self-paced learning day from home. There are no live, virtual classes your child needs to log into. Instead, they’ll work on assignments and online activities on their own schedule. These days help students build time management skills and also give our teachers dedicated time for professional development to bring fresh strategies back to the classroom. There will be two Asynchronous Learning Days this school year. They are October 10, 2025 and March 13, 2026.
Does my child need to come to the school building on this day?
No, all learning for an Asynchronous Learning Day takes place remotely from home. School buildings will be closed to students.
Does my child have to do the work during normal school hours?
No, and that's the primary benefit of a self-paced day! Your child can complete their assignments at any time that works for your family's schedule. The goal is simply to complete the work by the end of the day.
What will my child be working on?
It depends on their grade level:
Grades PreK-8: Your child will use an Activity Choice Board. They need to choose and complete one activity per subject (like one for math, one for reading, etc.). They're welcome to do more if they'd like!
High School Students: They should first check for any specific tasks assigned by their teachers. If a teacher hasn't assigned anything, students should choose one of their current courses from the provided resources and complete a lesson to review what they've been learning.
All students are also encouraged to read for at least 20 minutes!
How long should my child spend on their assignments?
The goal is for students to work at their own pace. We suggest aiming for a total of 2-3 hours for elementary students and 3-4 hours for middle and high school students, spread throughout the day. However, the focus should be on understanding and completing the tasks, not just time spent.
Where do we find the assignments?
All assignments and resources are on the main Asynchronous Learning Day website, which your child can access through their ClassLink launchpad on their school-issued Chromebook or any device with internet access.
What if a teacher has already provided a specific assignment for this day?
For all levels, elementary, middle, and high school, if a teacher has assigned specific work for the Asynchronous Learning Day, that assignment should be your child's top priority. They should complete the teacher-assigned task first before moving on to the general course review options.
I have multiple children. Any tips for managing the day?
We suggest reviewing each child's assignments in the morning to create a flexible plan. Set up a comfortable workspace for each, and encourage them to take breaks. It can also be a great opportunity for older students to help their younger siblings.
How will my child's IEP accommodations be supported?
Assignments are designed to be flexible and accessible. Your child’s teacher or case manager will provide materials and/or instructions beforehand. Please reach out to them directly with any specific questions.
How will my child's 504 accommodations be supported?
Assignments are designed to be flexible and accessible. Please reach out to your school’s 504 Administrator directly with any specific questions.
What should my child do if they finish their work early?
If a student completes their required activities, they should choose one of the activities from Move, Create, Digital Literacy, and explore the family activities on the Connect choice board. Don’t forget to remind your child to log their reading minutes in Beanstack.
What if my child is struggling with an assignment?
If your child gets stuck, encourage them to take a break and try again later. If they are still having trouble, they can move on to a different subject or activity. They should email their teacher with specific questions so the teacher can provide support on the next school day.
Will teachers be available to help my child?
Because these are professional development days, teachers will have limited availability and will not be available for live instruction. If your child has a question, they should email their teacher. Please be aware that the response may be delayed until the next school day.
What are the teachers doing on this day?
These days are vital for our teachers’ professional growth. Teachers participate in training workshops and collaborative planning sessions to learn new instructional strategies they can bring back to the classroom.
How do we get tech support if something isn't working?
If you have trouble with a device or logging in, please contact your child's school directly for help.
Will after-school activities, clubs, or sports still take place?
There will be no after-school activities on Asynchronous Learning Days unless you are specifically notified otherwise by the school. However, extracurricular activities and athletic events will continue as planned. Please confirm with the school, coach, or club advisor directly if you are unsure.
My question isn't answered here. Who should I contact?
For questions about specific assignments, please email your child's teacher. For more general questions about the Asynchronous Learning Day itself, please contact your school's main office.
