On the third day of third grade, we enjoyed fun revolving around the number THREE. These activities included creating Back to School haikus (three-line poems), making a list of words that start with TRI (a prefix meaning three), and using the words in THIRD GRADE CLASS to make as many words as possible. Students were excited to fill their pages with words they knew!
Students each received a bag of fiction & nonfiction books to peruse & share as they created a Someday List of books they might like to read. It was a joy watching students find new topics they might not have considered reading before.
Students have really enjoyed our regular class circles where we take turns sharing fun facts about ourselves. This week, we've split into two groups and made use of some nice weather while sharing on the sidewalk. Not only are we learning about our classmates through this daily activity, but we're practicing active listening where we LOOK at the speaker, LISTEN to the speaker, and RESPECT the speaker. Another great activity to help us learn about one another was our Diversity Nearpod. Check out our collaboration boards which represent the different family backgrounds and traditions.
As we explored Place Value, students created number lines and used playing cards to create large numbers and practice rounding to the nearest ten and hundred. Anytime you can bring manipulatives to the table, students have more fun!
Third grade was the first to win the Spirit Monkey award for all of our cheering and pep during the first monthly spirit rally. Students enjoyed dancing with DJ Favale, screaming about our progress in the first month of school, and just enjoying the time we were allowed to be Stronger Together!
To conclude our study of ecosystems, students worked in groups to create habitat trioramas, which when put together, modeled various food chains found in each ecosystem. Each student described an organism in their ecosystem and how it interacted with the transfer of energy. Check out a few shots from the rainforest, desert, and ocean habitats.
As part of our Digital Safety Week, students participated in several spirit days! One of those days was all about being a digital super hero, making smart choices when accessing online programs and using our devices.
Students put their creativity to the test as they donned outfits of favorite book characters. The third grade teachers even joined the fun by dressing as different visions of Jackson's imaginary friend, Crenshaw, a cat who enjoys surfing with a bumbershoot, taking bubble baths, eating purple jelly beans, and announcing for the San Francisco Giants.
