My name is M.C. (Mary Catherine) Bernheart. I was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. I attended Short Pump Elementary, Byrd Middle, and graduated from Godwin High School. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development with a concentration in Early Childhood Education from Virginia Tech. I received my Master’s degree in Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Tech. I then received my Gifted Endorsement from the University of Virginia. In December of 2020, I became a National Board Certified Teacher under Exceptional Needs Specialist - Gifted. Lastly, I completed the HCPS Aspiring Leader Academy in 2021.
My husband, Matt, and I have a two sons, Vedder (9) and Ballad (2.5). I am also blessed that most of my family currently lives in Richmond. I am very close to my parents, and I have two older brothers. I enjoy reading, creating projects, completing crafts, listening to music, going to concerts, vacationing at the beach, and doing anything involved with the outdoors.
I LOVE learning and consider myself a life-long learner. Another love of mine is children; that is why at an early age I decided to go into teaching. I previously taught for four years (4th and 5th grade) at Ward Elementary. I taught 4th grade at Short Pump Elementary for two years and 5th grade for five years. This will be my seventh year as the Innovative Learning Coach at Short Pump ES. I look forward to my 18th year as an ILC with my Short Pump family!
I am passionate about cultivating a love of learning in students and preparing them to be #LifeReady through the lens of the Henrico Learner Profile. Let's get started!
