What School Counselors Do

Classroom Lessons

Core Curriculum Lessons are designed to help students achieve academically. They will address social/emotional, academic, and career development. These lessons allow us to reach a number of students while addressing topics that all students can benefit from. Core Curriculum Lessons will teach the students about Emotional Regulation, Conflict Resolution, Character Education and Careers. Students will learn strategies that they can use in the classroom and at home.

Group Counseling

Group counseling is important for the students because it helps them understand that they are not alone. It also opens the door to discuss topics that may be too personal to address in classroom lessons. Students can learn from their peers and learn more about the difficult situations in a safe environment with others going through similar struggles. Group counseling can help the students grow socially, academically and personally.

Small groups for students are based on student, parent, or teacher requests and will be held throughout the year. These groups run 6-8 weeks.

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling will occur to help students reach their full potential academically, socially and personally. When working with an individual we must meet the student where they are and work with them at their own pace.

Individual counseling is for students based on requests from students, parents or teachers. Parent permission will be requested for multiple sessions, parent input and support are crucial.
